MW isn’t the only one questioning.
We were surprised to realize our high school son had checked the box for organ donation on his Driver License,
no parental notice or consent. That was .. 20+ years ago. We presumed Driver Ed encourages this.
These are very difficult questions.
My mother was on a ventilator in ICU for a few days, doctors said she would not survive. My father was in hell, he couldn’t do it, i.e., pull the plug. Within a few days, we were by her side when the tube was removed. She breathed! On her own.
It appeared to me the tube was causing the worst problems. i never asked.
She lived a high quality independent life for 10+years.
At her age, i doubt her organs were wanted. i never asked.
Her first words to us: “Have you had breakfast?!” - that was really important to her!
She had no idea what-all had been going on all around her .. even Dad. So emotional.
These are hard questions.
