Doug Wilson and his schtick
Re: Bill Gothard and his schtick
A better debate premise would simply be Augustine vs Pelagius, which was the original debate between just war and nonresistance. It is essentially two streams of Christianity.

If I posted some of the stuff he has written, Robert would RIGHTLY remove me from this board.JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 11:11 pm An acquaintance of mine ended up relocating to Doug Wilson's church. It has been good for her family as the social atmosphere / church expectations are that her husband actually hold down a job. He is also very pro-Calvinist and had been using that as an excuse to not really attend church before because no local churches were Calvinist enough for him, and, well, the expectations are now that he attend church regularly as Doug Wilson's church is sufficiently Calvinist.
So Doug Wilson and his church aren't all bad, including for women.

Can you point us to it, without posting it on this forum?Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 9:31 am If I posted some of the stuff he has written, Robert would RIGHTLY remove me from this board.

A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

Click on the links in the article cited. That should do it...the language is profane at times.Ernie wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 10:23 amCan you point us to it, without posting it on this forum?Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 9:31 am If I posted some of the stuff he has written, Robert would RIGHTLY remove me from this board.

His blog is the place where he regularly dips into very uncharitable speech (well, writing). It is called "Blog and Mablog" and you can google that and dip into the backlog.Ernie wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 10:23 amCan you point us to it, without posting it on this forum?Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 9:31 am If I posted some of the stuff he has written, Robert would RIGHTLY remove me from this board.
The article posted by Ken includes stuff that would hopefully get a user removed here. Scan the article for the paragraph on what Wilson has called women in the past. The article is tame, level-headed, and does not advocate for vulgar or uncharitable language, but if you have a filtering software like CovenantEyes, it will likely trigger with some of the words on that page where they quote from Wilson.

The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly.

I would hope that Anabaptists wouldn't be attracted to any Calvinist theologian/preacher/writer.Praxis+Theodicy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 8:45 am I thought in 2020 that Wilson is the most dangerous Christian influencer out there, and each year since, my mind has not been changed. My biggest hope is that, since he is loud enough about his vulgar and pugilistic style, he will not attract anabaptists into his ecosystem. In my opinion, it is too much trouble to spit out the bones just to get at whatever mean there might be in Wilson's rhetoric.

You would be wrong. I personally know CA families that are very sympathetic to Doug Wilson, and others that have actually moved to Moscow to join the movement and have their children baptized.JohnH wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 11:05 amI would hope that Anabaptists wouldn't be attracted to any Calvinist theologian/preacher/writer.Praxis+Theodicy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 8:45 am I thought in 2020 that Wilson is the most dangerous Christian influencer out there, and each year since, my mind has not been changed. Re: Bill Gothard and his schtick
Theology, as separated from praxis, I try not to get too worked up for/against. If an anabaptist was quite taken with John Piper or Francis Chan, I'd be less opposed to that than theonomists like Doug Wilson, Abraham Kuyper, or Francis Schaefer.JohnH wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 11:05 amI would hope that Anabaptists wouldn't be attracted to any Calvinist theologian/preacher/writer.Praxis+Theodicy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 8:45 am I thought in 2020 that Wilson is the most dangerous Christian influencer out there, and each year since, my mind has not been changed. Re: Bill Gothard and his schtick
Seems like there is a pattern here that ties all of these men together:
Bill Gothard
Doug Wilson
Bill Johnson (Bethel Church who we discussed last month)
Kenneth Copeland
Pat Robertson
Joel Osteen
Sean Feucht
Franklin Graham
Jerry Falwell (Jr. and Sr.)
etc. etc.
While they differ theologically, they are all dedicated to building kingdoms of wealth and power here on earth at which they all (coincidentally!) sit at the top as autocrats, wielding all of the power and absorbing much of the wealth.
I don't know about the rest of you, but my Bible doesn't call for the disciples of Christ to fly in private jets and live in mansions that would put Roman emperors to shame.
