Meanwhile, in The Falklands

Post by temporal1 »

In my lifetime, the war/conflict that most surprised me was The Falklands War.
Evidently, the link below is about a movie, i know nothing about it. Not a Netflix customer.

Our son was born in 1983. News was frightening. This reports says it lasted 74 days.

The human and material costs of protracted wars falls heaviest on the general masses. Very unwanted.

1982 / A Brief History of the Falklands War
The latest season of Netflix’s “The Crown” dramatizes the 1982 clash between Argentina and the United Kingdom

i appreciate Trump’s consistent acknowledgement of pain+losses “ON BOTH SIDES”. i find that unusual in politics.
i was impressed with my mother’s sincere empathy for “ordinary people” in Russia during the AWFUL Cold War.
it’s REALLY popular to identify THE EVIL ONE, then let that serve as justification (for evil).

Trump isn’t always wrong.

^^apologies for the Smithsonian Mag link.
i didn’t read carefully or view the video before referring to it. i counted on the Smithsonian to be .. more responsible than not.
it turned out to be more of a Netflix commercial ad, DEI, feminism-driven - - i won’t take it further to find a better source.

sorry.
i try to read/view BEFORE posting. this is a great example of why that’s important.
i went back to study it. not totally surprising, however, disappointing!

It’s an article that provides the historical background for an episode or a popular Netflix TV show, “The Crown,” which is a fictionalized biography about Queen Elizabeth. It’s not DEI. It’s a TV show.

The video in the article is the trailer for the episode, The article itself is a pretty good historical background of the Falklands War which the episode refers to.

The article even has a section about how accurately the TV episode portrays the Falklands War and where it departs from it. This tension between accuracy and storytelling is characteristic of any dramatization of history.

Did you read the article?

i disagree. i believe i read in “ways that differ” because i was an adult when it happened, i have RT memories, AND i’m not drenched in blinding lib ideology.

The Falklands are off topic, i’m trying not to pursue.

So a show about Queen Elizabeth that features a sympathetic portrait of conservative icon Margaret Thatcher is DEI drenched in blinding lib ideology. Got it.

How could anything about Maggie and Liz not be "feminism-driven" though? :)

The Falkland's war was the result of overreach on the part of the Argentine military dictatorship which was looking for a foreign military victory to distract from its failures at home.

And the British response was the result of wounded British pride and the notion that the British need to stand tall again in the world. Which the Argentines failed to gauge or understand. Plus, when have the British EVER shied away from a fight? They probably get into more wars than the Americans. And when they don't have their own wars, they join in on ours.

Of course, feminism has been made a loaded word, unfortunately, now heavily politicized and deliberately divisive.
The two women are female, i’ll stop there. (Not everyone would!) Even those words are hotly disputed.

This topic might be be better labeled, “Meanwhile, in The Smithsonian Magazine” .. :blah: :P
