Re: Israel strikes Iran
Maybe to some demographics... But I see a huge difference between taking out military installations vs. killing innocent civilians and annexing territory by force.

A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

Re: Israel strikes Iran
June 20, at least 5 Chinese 747 cargo flights flew into Iran. They turned off their transponders as they neared Iranian airspace and disappeared from radar. Were they offloading more weapons? Were they bringing in help in another form? Were they also supposed to evacuate regime leaders and their families as well as some of their scientists?
Later in that same day (June 20) a 5.1 Iranian shallow depth earthquake occurred. Was it the destruction of something that the regime did not want to be found? Whether it was actual nuclear bomb(s) or not I guess only time will tell.
Yesterday BB bombs were dropped on Iranian nuclear development sites, completely destroying them.
I feel that history just turned a page.

Exactly... he's shown this for, going on a decade now in public office (and years before as well) He's also shown that his "word" is one of the least trustworthy on the planet - Ie proof-text/snippets that his followers quote from random interviews where he proclaims/suggests he won't be like those other presidents who started wars... words for the cameras/TV that mean absolutely nothing.
He makes "deals" with everyone, everywhere, all the time (interview, rally, WH presser, NYC Dems! - you name it) but does he stick to his end of the deal? Rarely.
I'm totally not surprised that the "I'll be an isolationist for you" deal, is already broken. How many times does this have to happen before everyone, including the base, learns the lesson?
I'm hoping/praying this is a once and done, but I'll wait till afterwards to know for sure what this admin has done...

A Confessing Church would acknowledge the inescapable realities of sin and injustice in every human institution, including every political party. It would wholeheartedly reject any suggestion that one party or movement is the party of God. Paul D Miller

Conveniently we actually have scientific evidence that it was just an earthquake.JohnL wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 7:47 am June 20, at least 5 Chinese 747 cargo flights flew into Iran. 1: reasonably common for this area.
2: Wrong Moment Tensor
3: wrong depth
4: P wave and S wave inversion didn't happen.

Putin is another cautionary tale about the dangers of “pre-emptive” and “defensive” wars that end up being harder, deadlier, more expensive and longer than assumed. Putin believed they’d win in a week when they invaded and it’s been now over three years.
There’s nothing reasonable about any of this.

I agree. We have good scientific tools for telling the difference between a regular earthquake and an underground explosion, and we use them regularly to monitor for underground nuclear tests. We’ve been doing this since the 1960s, and global monitoring became even more organized and precise in the 1990s with the creation of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO).
Some explanations of what Soloist said:
- Depth – This quake happened about 10 km (6 miles) underground. That’s common for tectonic earthquakes. In contrast, explosions usually happen within the top 1–2 km of the surface, often much shallower. This was too deep to be a typical explosion.
- Moment tensor (shape of the shaking) – Earthquakes usually involve rocks sliding past each other sideways or diagonally. Explosions push outward in all directions from a single point (like a balloon popping underground). The shape of this quake matched a sideways-slip earthquake, not an explosion.
- Seismic wave patterns – Explosions mostly send out strong P-waves (the fastest waves, like sound waves) that travel directly outward in a sphere. They don’t make strong S-waves, which are slower side-to-side shaking waves. Natural earthquakes send out both P-waves and strong S-waves, and their energy spreads more unevenly depending on the fault direction. This quake had a normal mix of P-waves and S-waves, and the way they arrived at different seismic stations matched a tectonic event.
- Region – Iran is on major fault lines. A 5.1 quake in that area is not unusual and doesn’t automatically mean anything secret is going on.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

I'm very much in a "wait and see" place on this one. Five years after a war starts, we usually find that:Szdfan wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 9:11 amPutin is another cautionary tale about the dangers of “pre-emptive” and “defensive” wars that end up being harder, deadlier, more expensive and longer than assumed. Putin believed they’d win in a week when they invaded and it’s been now over three years.
There’s nothing reasonable about any of this.
1. Some of the "facts" used to justify the war were simply not true. Think Gulf of Tonkin, Second Iraq War. The government knew they were lying to us.
2. The military objectives were not clearly defined. Think Vietnam, Afghanistan, Second Iraq War.
3. Grand promises of quick success were never based on reality. The Iraqis did not embrace us as their liberators and quickly overthrow their government.
4. Many more people died than predicted.
5. The war did not establish a new stability
Here, I think the military objectives are reasonably well defined, at least for now. I also think a lot of the facts have real substance. International law does not allow for preemptive wars, though, for an obvious reason - if you can invade someone because you think they might invade you, that justifies almost any war.
It's hard to say what comes next. This involves pretty much the entire Middle East, not just the US, Iran, and Israel. War is inherently chaotic. We know very little.
Regardless, I think the role of Christians is to help the victims of war, not to cheer it on. May God have mercy on us all.

I'd be interested in seeing the link to those readouts saying that it was a natural earthquake. I hope it was. I don't like thinking that something like a bomb that big and nasty could set one off.Soloist wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 8:48 amConveniently we actually have scientific evidence that it was just an earthquake.JohnL wrote: ↑Sun Jun 22, 2025 7:47 am June 20, at least 5 Chinese 747 cargo flights flew into Iran.
