If it’s Oasis Tabernacle, I don’t see how you could describe them as “sound in doctrine”.Valerie wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 9:56 amYes those are two things, the feathers falling from nowhere- lots of strange things that look more like magic. Perhaps as a necessary warning that if possible, even the elect can be deceived?
I could spend a great deal of time listing the reasons why Bethel is one of the main reasons we left the Pentecost & Charismatic Churches we attended for about 35 years.
Another thing that really troubled me about Bill Johnson besides all the seemingly lying signs and wonders is when he endorsed Todd Bentley back into ministry. Todd Bentley was the freakiest supposed faith healer I ever saw. Then he had an affair with woman in his ministry, went through a divorce and married the woman of the affair. Stepped away a time but restored and Bill Johnson endorsed this.
I lnow strong Christians in NE Ohio who go along with this Bizarre wild offshoot of the Charismatic branch but even in my firm beliefs of Baptism of the Holy Spirit, Spiritual gifts, miracles, these folks to us have strange fire.
They were tested during Covid but couldn’t heal the sick or raise all the dead. Can’t believe this, JohnH you messing with us?
I had friends caught up on this. Made a shipwreck of their faith.
My friend that attends Bethel Cleveland wasn’t aware of the weird things in Redding. As soon as BJ endorsed Todd Bentley returning to ministry that should have settled the questions as that is “lawlessness” endorsed. There is fruit and good works in many false doctrine churches.
Where are your friends now? I’m thankful we were grounded in our faith & left as soon as we saw people in our Foursquare Gospel Church approving these folks. And they were telling me we better wake up, they were actually concerned for us that we weren’t going for it.
There are Anabaptist heritage folks that get into this I suppose. We love a church in Sugarcreek OH because it is full Gospel embracing Spiritual gifts, but has discernment and knows to avoid this stuff. Most that attend came from Amish or Mennonite but very sound in doctrine. It really helped us keep from feeling discouraged.
They also have interactions with Bethel and generally speaking would be fully onboard with Bethel stuff.
Valerie, I don’t understand why you seem to think ex-Amish/ex-Mennonites gives a place more credibility.

Wrong JohnH. I’ve tried 3x with lengthy reply for now I’d say I have had enough interaction with pastor & Oasis to disclaim what you said. Right now I’m questioning your judgement anyway.JohnH wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 10:04 amIf it’s Oasis Tabernacle, I don’t see how you could describe them as “sound in doctrine”.Valerie wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 9:56 amYes those are two things, the feathers falling from nowhere- lots of strange things that look more like magic. Re: Neo-evangelical Anabaptists
My (former) barber’s son and his wife were quite enthusiastic about Oasis and also quite enthusiastic about Bethel (Cleveland) and apparently groups from Oasis would go up to Bethel (back when they had multiple campuses; now they just have one) when special speakers were visiting. There were stories of various miracles happening, like “leg lengthening” where someone went to a Bethel service and their need to see a chiropractor went away.Valerie wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 10:20 amWrong JohnH. Re: Bethel Church
By the way I would add that anyone who endorsed Todd Bentley displayed a serious lack of discernment, spiritual or otherwise. My opinion of Bill Johnson is that he errs on the side of not denouncing people and doesn’t want to dismiss something as not of God if it might be of God. This is generally how charismatics do things.

Makes sense. I generally would put Bethel and chiropractors in the same bucket.JohnH wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 10:48 amMy (former) barber’s son and his wife were quite enthusiastic about Oasis and also quite enthusiastic about Bethel (Cleveland) and apparently groups from Oasis would go up to Bethel (back when they had multiple campuses; now they just have one) when special speakers were visiting. Bethel Cleveland’s leader a few years back died of cancer (despite plenty of healing prayers).
