It’s 2025 now. I think Bethel acted responsibly in 2021, as did my own church in California which had fully resumed in person church, K-16 schooling, and no social distancing nor vaccine requirements.

Bethel did not “kill people”.

If you deliberately create the conditions for a widespread disease outbreak in your community. Which Bethel did. And then innocent people end up dying who might be elderly, have pre-existing conditions, or who might be at elevated risk because they are immunocompromised. Then it is accurate to say that YOUR actions contributed to THEIR deaths.

Did not Jesus teach us that we have an obligation to the most vulnerable among us?

This isn't my thread and I'm not a moderator, but why do we have a multipage discussion on Bethel Redding in a thread on Anabaptists?

Perhaps as a necessary warning that if possible, even the elect can be deceived?

I could spend a great deal of time listing the reasons why Bethel is one of the main reasons we left the Pentecost & Charismatic Churches we attended for about 35 years.

Another thing that really troubled me about Bill Johnson besides all the seemingly lying signs and wonders is when he endorsed Todd Bentley back into ministry. Todd Bentley was the freakiest supposed faith healer I ever saw. Then he had an affair with woman in his ministry, went through a divorce and married the woman of the affair. Stepped away a time but restored and Bill Johnson endorsed this.

I lnow strong Christians in NE Ohio who go along with this Bizarre wild offshoot of the Charismatic branch but even in my firm beliefs of Baptism of the Holy Spirit, Spiritual gifts, miracles, these folks to us have strange fire.

They were tested during Covid but couldn’t heal the sick or raise all the dead. Can’t believe this, JohnH you messing with us?

Being an “outsider” to these type of movements (I do not criticize, I just cannot remotely identify with these characteristics, the lack of history, the la k of oversight, the drama, etc) I am amazed though by the simplest qualities that should ring alarm bells all over the place.

So, I read that the leader just happened to have his wife as a senior pastor in the past.
Really? Not only are you SOOOO gifted by God, but you just happened to be married to someone EQUALLY blessed by God.

What is with folks. That alone should have you running for the hills. These charismatic, evangelical type churches never seem to have lot of humility going on, do they?

All denominations outside of Catholic & Orthodox are Protestant & started by a man. So at andafter the reformation any man could get a following and start a denomination which Bethel I suppose could be considered its own.

We are told in New Testament to “test the spirits to see if they are from God” and my spirit is troubled a great deal by many aspects of Bethel. It has a great deal to do with what caused us to seek Anabaptism which coincided (because of our priest friend) to learn about the Eastern Orthodox. When you come from Pentecost/Charismatic/Evangelical you’re not encouraged to really learn & study history of “The Church”

Strange fire? You mean the “fire tunnel “ and “angel dust?”

I had friends caught up on this. Made a shipwreck of their faith.

I don't have a lot y experience with this type of Christianity, but they are causing me to be suspicious of the concept of anointing. You never know what people mean by it.

Yes those are two things, the feathers falling from nowhere- lots of strange things that look more like magic. I remind myself satans best tactic it seems is to mix truth with a lie. So you can point out fruits and truth mixed right in there with the weird things.

My friend that attends Bethel Cleveland wasn’t aware of the weird things in Redding. As soon as BJ endorsed Todd Bentley returning to ministry that should have settled the questions as that is “lawlessness” endorsed. There is fruit and good works in many false doctrine churches.

Where are your friends now? I’m thankful we were grounded in our faith & left as soon as we saw people in our Foursquare Gospel Church approving these folks. And they were telling me we better wake up, they were actually concerned for us that we weren’t going for it.

There are Anabaptist heritage folks that get into this I suppose. We love a church in Sugarcreek OH because it is full Gospel embracing Spiritual gifts, but has discernment and knows to avoid this stuff. Most that attend came from Amish or Mennonite but very sound in doctrine. It really helped us keep from feeling discouraged.
