Neo-evangelical Anabaptists

Less fundamentalist, open to neo-evangelical biblical interpretation. Pastors go to seminary at places like Gordon Conwell or Fuller Seminary
A thread to discuss and learn more about these folks.

Is this an accurate picture of Neo-evangelicals in the Protestant world?

Does LMC take any different position on divorce and remarriage than what Rosedale Network does?

Are these folks all pro-life/anti-abortion or is it a mixed bag?

Maybe Cooper needs to define their term. The link Ernie posted describes the movement that, today, is mostly just called "evangelicalism". Seems like Cooper is describing a certain subset of that broader tradition. Not all evangelicals would ordain women, but some would. I don't know what Cooper means by "neo-evangelical bible interpretation".

Most of Rosedale Network would be Evangelical Anabaptist, but probably not what cooper is describing. It would fit in the box described in Ernie's link, but probably not in the box cooper is building. Not sure.

The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly.

I agree the categories need more work. I think it’s hard because groups like LMC have a rich history and have various streams. I think there was a lot of loyalty to Lancaster Conference and that brings a lot of diversity because there is no ideological uniformity.

I would say solidly prolife. It depends on your definitions I suppose. Voting is very common in these groups and voting for Democrats is not uncommon. I don’t see that as pro-choice but I suppose it could be seen that way.

People and denominations divide for different reasons along multiple axes so any attempt to lump everyone into pre-defined groups is only going to be a rough approximation at best. Furthermore, within each group there is also a diversity of opinion and ideas. The MCUSA church where my parents attend has arch-conservatives who are probably more like CMC as well as stereotypical liberals. They all manage to get along because it is the one Menno church in town and they all share a common heritage and 95% of the time they are focused on issues that unite them rather than divide them.

Maybe we could ask it this way... Within Neo-evangelical Anabaptism

What percentage do you guess might fit each of the following? Wild guesses is fine.

1. Believe that Christians should not be taking part in pro-life / pro-choice rallies.
2. Are personally supportive of pro-life rallies (even if they do not say so out loud or take part in such things)
3. Are personally supportive of pro-choice rallies (even if they do not say so out loud or take part in such things)
4. Believe that abortion is generally wrong but allow for enough exceptions that they can't support either movement
5. Are indifferent to the topic.
