This is a thread for simply stating the teachings of your church. It's not for argument against those teachings.

In what world is this reminder difficult to understand?

What does your church believe about remarriage and divorce?
Please no bashing or criticisms of anyone.

This is a thread for simply stating the teachings of your church. It's not for argument against those teachings.

As the author of this thread I didn’t want a theological debate or arguments from the usual instigators and antagonists. I only seek to know what your present church teaches on remarriage and divorce to enrich my own understanding.

If you want to bicker about your views take it to the Bunny Trails topic per the rules of the forum. Would the mods please move the posts that debate over there?

I find these statements in the Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective.
https://www.mennoniteusa.org/who-are-me ... /marriage/
We believe that God intends marriage to be a covenant between one man and one woman for life.
Some in the church experience divorce, abuse, sexual misconduct, and other problems that make marriage and family life burdensome or even impossible. Jesus affirmed the sanctity of marriage (Matt. 5:32) and pointed to hardness of the heart as the ultimate cause of divorce (Mark 10:4-9). Today’s church needs to uphold the permanency of marriage and help couples in conflict move toward reconciliation. At the same time, the church, as a reconciling and forgiving community, offers healing and new beginnings. The church is to bring strength and healing to individuals and families.

We believe marriage is a lifelong commitment regardless of legal environment and regardless of faithless partners.

We belief marriage to be a lifelong bond that can be terminated only by death. We believe remarriage after legal divorce is not sanctioned by God.

Is the definition of marriage pretty consistent across all the Anabaptist churches?

No.

Some define it as acceptable between two men.

Some allow it between a man and multiple women, albeit only if one is already in that state before coming to the Anabaptist church in question. (MK)

Some define marriage as something created the moment a couple moves in together and start cohabitating, including my own denomination, but only in a specific national church, and for a certain type (I think Petition 2?) of Old Brethren.

Some consider marriage to only be to the first person you ever got married to, regardless of if that person had prior marriages/divorces.

Some consider marriage to only be to the first person you ever got married to, unless that person had prior marriages/divorces, and then that doesn't count.
