Apparently the new Pope is on Twitter and his recent tweets include criticisms of Trump’s immigration policy and deportations to El Salvador. As well as criticizing JD Vance’s interpretation of Catholicism and the Gospel.
I think things are going to get interesting.

He should probably spend more time focusing on sweeping in his own house, such as the abuse scandal he got himself wrapped up in.Ken wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 2:27 pm Apparently the new Pope is on Twitter and his recent tweets include criticisms of Trump’s immigration policy and deportations to El Salvador. But from what little I have read, it looks like he is very much in the Pope Francis mold ideologically.

Re: The Pope to Replace Pope Francis
They elected an American sort of. He was born in Chicago but spent most of his life doing mission work in Peru and leadership roles that weren't in the USA. One of the articles cited his leadership roles in various places and said "plus he has languages" meaning he speaks several languages.
Kind of a slick move on that just sayin'.
I wonder if he can speak Chicago-ese? I know he probably doesn't speak Southern.

Eagle Firing AR-15 Emerges From Vatican Indicating An American Pope Has Been Selected
https://babylonbee.com/news/eagle-firin ... n-selected
VATICAN — In an aerial display that delighted millions, the Vatican conclave released a bald eagle firing an AR-15 into the air to signal that an American pope had been selected. Sources say the crowd roared as the majestic eagle soared across the sky and the sweet sounds of 5.56 ammunition cracked in the air. "Yee-haw! We got ourselves a new Pope!" said thousands of Americans, who were also shooting their AR-15s into the air. "USA! USA! USA!"
Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who presided over the conclave, said the epic display was mandated by Pope John Paul II in 2002 to prepare for the future possibility of an American pope. "We have been told that Americans enjoy these sorts of things," he said. Sources within the Vatican confirmed that the ceremony will conclude with a red, white, and blue fireworks display and a meal of Chicago deep-dish pizza and Miller Lite.
At publishing time, the newly elected Pope Leo XIV wowed fans by doing burnouts in his Trans-Am popemobile.

Catholics Frantically Google Newly Elected Pope To See If He's Catholic
Cardinal Robert F. Prevost, originally from Chicago, Illinois, became the first American to be selected to serve as pope, leading devout members of the church to quickly look up his background to find out if he was also the first Catholic to serve in the position in over a decade.
"It'll be a great change of pace if he is," said lifelong Catholic Dave Battaglia. "Throwing in some variety every now and then is fine, but it would be nice to have a Catholic guy in charge of the Catholic Church for at least a little while. I need to find out more about this Leo guy to see if he's at least been to Mass before."
If Leo XIV is, in fact, Catholic, he would return the church to its once-longstanding tradition of having popes who were Catholic. "You never know these days," said Lisa Ganapini, another devout Catholic. "You'd think that there's a decent chance that he's a member of the faith, but as we've learned in recent years, you just never know. I guess we'll find out. I hope he's, like, read the Bible or something, too."
At publishing time, progressives around the world were reportedly disappointed that the Catholic Church had once again missed the opportunity to elect the first female pope.

Pope Leo XIV's first mass as pope in the Sistine Chapel. Traditionalist Mennonites have absolutely nothing on these guys.
