Pope Francis passes on

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

Cardinal Benson might be the one. He’s young, at only 22 years old, yet already is a Cardinal. He is Catholic and unmarried. Pope Trey I.

The ideology behind the current American conservatism is decades old but the Catholic ideology is measured in millennia, the two will not always pair up. Catholic doctrine has traditions influenced by culture wars hundreds of years ago like labor rights and immigration the will not prove satisfactory for the American right.
Personally, i have no idea what politically conservative americans are looking for.
My interest in a pope more aligns with what those early Catholic monks were seeking when they read scriptures and “simply” wanted their church/Church to return to the Word, which i believe to be the lifelong pursuit of believers. i believe Jesus invites all without demands for pedigrees, certificates, even literacy! So unlike human reasoning. He confounds.

i realize Catholic doctrine has traditions that are very hard for me to grasp on any level. some are very foreign (to me).
However, with scriptures at core, and the Holy Spirit, there is Hope.

i’m not sure there is conflict about (human dignity and human rights) for believers. There is likely conflict wrt “marrying” government with the church/Church to force doctrine that would be hard to reconcile.

i’m sad witnessing, C.Burke isn’t well enough, and C.Sarah seems all but dismissed from consideration.
It’s early, i’m not at all sure.

i’m genuinely interested in witnessing how the world would respond to C.Sarah as pope.
i would expect even more shock as messages of “stop worshiping self as god” might be heard.

If it’s God’s will, it will be. i’m sure of that.

Well, if we're going to have fictional characters as cardinals, I'll put in myself to be eligible as well. (There's no rule that says a pope has to be unmarried, and I think my doctrines are pretty catholic, orthodox, and apostolic.)

I'm honestly a little surprised nobody on MN has took this little nugget to town yet... But then again, that might be too much rabbit trail for the OP.
And today, Lutherans and Catholics, Protestants and everyone else, agree on the Doctrine of Justification: on this very important point, he wasn't wrong.

Good catch. I completely missed that.

Maybe the Pope did have a point: even many Anabaptists have pretty much adopted Luther's "gospel".

i was too caught up that he didn’t name Anabaptists, which i’m accustomed to in general, but surprised in this quote.
he wrote “and everyone else” but that doesn’t do it for me.

i don’t recall the overlap of justification on MD.

Benson is not fictional, he's quite real. However, compared to the other potential candidates, he's in a completely different league. I wonder if he did get the job, if he would facilitate the Catholic church running back to more historic positions on some of the issues where Francis was seen as progressive.

Oh, I was thinking of a real fictional cardinal more closely associated with St. Charles, as opposed to a real Cardinal who is more of the order of St. Louis.

St. Louis? You're way off base. The patron saint most closely associated with Trey is St. Joseph, though he may sometimes be part of a hail mary situation.

St Louis lost its cardinals in 1988. Their new patron saint is actually Our Lady of Guadalupe.
