I don’t know her personally but then there’s lots of folks who did what she did. She’s from a place a good piece south of Asheville and I live well north of Asheville.
I think her middle school in Fairview pushed for her recognition. I just hope they thought to pay the NC taxes for her too. NC taxes aren’t cheap.
There’s a guy with his own construction equipment that’s been helping remove debris and paying for the operation out of his own pocket. There’s been youth groups and church groups who come and clean up and help rescue folks who were stranded. All kinds of churches have been involved too including ours.
Now there’s all kinds of the usual wildfires that are flaring up during a dry Spring season.

Speaking of taxes… MS got rid of their income tax.

Now what I’m worried about is the “tech bros” and wealthy types from California who have been flooding Nashville and Knoxville are going to start invading Mississippi as well. Then they start voting for people who promise to raise taxes. Odd, isn’t it?

To me, tragic.
A number of years ago when this began happening - including with some political leaders encouraging it, i.e., encouraging Dem voters to move to red states, for the planned purpose of throwing elections, i began dreaming of states crafting their own “naturalization” requirements for interstate relocation.

Make an attempt to respect the local culture. (City folk aren’t known to lean thataway.) :-|

Chicago does this in Illinois.
They send their Chicago students to downstate state universities, advising them to vote where they attend school, not to return home to vote - thus, county voting maps reflect the results: downstate college towns that “vote blue” in seas of red. Of course those students leave upon graduation, leaving their mark behind for locals to live with. They don’t give it a second thought. Ever.

We now have what i think of as The State of Chicago. Beware.
