Option 2, Zero support from day one, a complete takeover of Ukraine.
Option 3, Zero support from day one, Ukraine ignored by Russia. Or some other non-aggressive combination.

There’s this funny thing about men/males. Without opposition, competition, provocation, they tend to be peaceful.
Anyway. Those options are unlikely to ever be known. Too many willing participants.
Zero support from day 1??? I don't think there would be a Ukraine....maybe a lot like Belarus. Interestingly, Poland and Ukraine left the USSR at roughly the same time. Poland's economy has quadrupled whereas Ukraine's hasn't due to endemic corruption which I think Zelensky is trying to weed out.
Could you tell us more about when Poland was part of the USSR?

My bad, Poland was never officially part of the USSR. It was communistic satellite country until 1991. Ukraine left the USSR in December of 1991.

With zero support from other countries, Ukraine would be an occupied country, but I expect the war would continue. Russia was not able to successfully occupy Afghanistan; I don't think they'd be more successful in Ukraine. Which way would have killed and hurt more people? I don't know.

If a country doesn't want to contribute weapons to be used against other human beings, I admire them for this. But from a kingdoms of this world perspective, it seems like if there was a goal of depleting Russia's arsenal's and decreasing Russia's willingness to conquer and annex territory, allies of Ukraine could have focused on air defenses the last three years. A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

I think the primary issue is there’s been a status quo agreement. If NATO declares a no fly zone or if the US declares a no fly zone, are you going to cripple Ukraine’s ability to wage war on Russia? Are you prepared to have NATO planes fire on Russian planes?
Likewise, in Syria, what if Russia declared a no fly zone are they prepared to fire on NATO planes or American planes? Maybe this is overly simplistic, but you don’t do something unless you’re prepared for the enemies counter.
This is why America and others have sort of tiptoed around direct intervention, as well as it not actually fitting their overall agenda.
Right now, if the air was declared off limits, it would effectively result in US and NATO war planes having to try to shoot down multiple missiles, likely unsuccessfully, and Ukraine get upset that they couldn’t launch their drones into Russia or have it an obvious war action against Russia, which would risk a larger scale conflict.

The war is mostly a ground war, though.
