Video chatting?

Post by the-real-steve »

I will be having the need to "video chat" or whatever it is these youngsters call it these days. Specifically with family. Most of us have WhatsApp which I understand can be used to do this. But I will be in places with no internet connection. What options do I have?

WhatsApp and a 5G connection work fine. If video isn't working due to bandwith problems, you can use audio without video, and that has worked fine for me in relatively remote areas of West Virginia or other countries.

WhatsApp is widely used in remote parts of the world.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Yes, in fact, I now hear from a couple of the young Banawa men on WhatsApp. The changes that have come since we moved there in 86 just 'blow my mind'.

When I lived in Berlin, we were isolated, few people used email, phone calls were terribly expensive. Now I can talk to people all over the world on a regular basis. Even in remote areas. It's mind-blowing.

Google Translate and Google Maps mean I'm no longer as disoriented when I go to a new place. I kind of miss being a little lost and having to ask directions, and I frequently ask for directions or struggle in a language I don't know even when I don't have to.
