Last outbreak was east coast, in Hasidic Orthodox communities, mostly in Rockland county in New York. Spread into Brooklyn, and even into Baltimore, where we have similar communities. Wife was running the “ladies” side of a mass vaccination clinic at the local Bias Yakov school. She said the ladies did not seem to know what to make of her. There was actually one death from this outbreak, but the individual died outside of the US, so it was not counted. Suspicion is it entered from Israel.Soloist wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 7:53 amI suspected that was the case. We might still technically be under that as we still are sourcing all outbreaks as sourced from out of the US.R7ehr wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 11:30 pm…Hemmer, meanwhile, pointed out that the United States had declared measles eliminated in 2000, meaning that the disease had not spread domestically for over 12 months.

What is the Orthodox Jew’s reason not to?Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 10:08 am

While that could be a cause, I believe the majority has been traced to missionaries or citizens visiting Third World countries.

How many missionaries/citizen vs how many illegal immigrants. Most missionaries and citizens get vaccinated to leave the country. Several million illegal immigrants don't. Probabilities there tell me it's falling into the illegal immigration category.

Re: Mennonite Measles in Texas
You would be wrong about that. Take, for example, one 3rd world country that generates lots of immigrants to the US, El Salvador. The current measles vaccination rate in El Salvador is 99% which is 9 percentage points higher than in the US: https://immunizationdata.who.int/dashbo ... ericas/SLV Of course this is in part a consequence of WHO vaccination campaigns that were funded in part by USAID. So that will possibly change under Trump: https://immunizationdata.who.int/dashbo ... ericas/SLVJohnL wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 10:19 amHow many missionaries/citizen vs how many illegal immigrants. But the fact is that much of the Third World that generates immigrants to the US has HIGHER vaccination rates than the US and fewer cases of measles. El Salvador hasn't had a single case of measles for 25 years.
And if it was immigrants bringing in measles then the outbreaks would be showing up in immigrant communities like Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, etc. And not remote parts of rural Texas.

The virus checks whether someone is legal or illegal before infecting them, of course.

That didn't used to be the case 20-30 years ago.
Measles has only started to make a comeback in the US since anti-vaxers like Kennedy have increased their influence and helped drive down vaccination rates in the US with their lies and misinformation.

Despite death rates and disease rates plummeting before vaccines became widespread. Sure.
