Maybe in 50 years, but it seems to me that for the near future there is a self-reinforcing loop pushing against vaccines. As fewer children are vaccinated and we lose herd immunity, vaccines will become less effective which will cause people who are on the fence to not vaccinate which will lead to further loss of effectiveness and even fewer willing to vaccinate.

And who's going to convince them otherwise? Health experts who lied about covid, transgenderism, and food safety? Scientists who lied about climate change, chemtrails and the shape of the earth? Government which is the problem not the solution?

OK, I'm being cynical but it's hard for me to see a path back on this or a good many other areas. I've been doing a good bit of thinking lately about adapting to the new normal.
I agree that "experts" have lost their credibility. I'm wondering though if the overuse of vaccines can also be a problem like the overuse of antibiotics? I've heard it discussed that some of these diseases are evolving too and that the vaccines might not be as effective against the new form of the disease.
I guess it's possible, but without experts we'll never know will we?

Most vaccinated diseases are not like Covid or the flu. Mutations are not nearly as bad. I’m sure that’s overly simplistic but it’s one of the reasons we haven’t made an effective vaccination for hiv.
I’m not saying it won’t ever happen, but it would be easier to fix.

As long as they refuse to provide ethical options… Especially when they actually exist… any hard lesson well at least be shared blame for them.

I mean, I can at least hold out hope that maybe Trump changes imports on medical things.
What do you actually expect to happen here?

Trump is erecting trade barriers, not breaking them down. And when it comes to imported medications, approval is contingent on the companies involved going through the gauntlet of the approval process. If it isn't worth their time and money then they aren't going to bother. Trump's dismantling of HHS is going to make that process slower and more difficult, not faster.

Honestly I don't expect him to notice at all. One can hope. The other presidents have never prioritized it either but Trump certainly is not a normal president.
The restrictions I am speculating as to the cause as I don't really know might be some "safety" feature Trump removes opening the way to import it. I'd never know unless someone starts ranting about him removing something important on imports/medical stuff.

We could change the laws such that drugs that receive approval for sale in Europe or Mexico or India or China are deemed "approved" for the US market as well. But that would be a major statutory change requiring an act of Congress.

I don't have any sense that there is interest in doing this on the part of this administration or any other. Theoretically Trump could possibly make some sort of national emergency declaration to temporarily waive US approval and testing requirements for certain drugs that are in short supply and urgently needed. But I doubt that opposition to stem cell research constitutes such a national emergency. And US drug manufacturers would no doubt be strongly opposed.

My impression is that the current president has no respect for prior practice and may unilaterally do whatever he feels like given the current mood. With RFK, who knows what could happen.

As far as testing is concerned, as far as I know the medication (the measles vaccine) is produced by a US company and sold in Canada and Mexico and was prior sold in the US. From my perspective (assuming my history is correct) the vaccine was already proven safe for public use in America.
The Japanese version of the Rubella vaccine would be fitting under your thoughts as it hasn't been tested by USA.
As for the drug companies, who knows what they might do... they might stay silent and figure out how to capitalize on shifting sand or they might do what you suggest and face the consequences from our president.
Apple for example seems to be quick to jump on the bandwagon as well as other major tech companies.

Would you consider taking a trip with your kids to Mexico (or another county) to be vaccinated with an ethical vaccine?

Yes. Right now we can’t afford to. This has been a year of medical bills and realistically… we haven’t had a year we could. Besides, I’m not positive about the sequence for the measles vaccine by itself but I’m assuming it’s 3.
Canada would probably be easier, but we’re a long way from Canada as well…
The only ethical Rubella vaccine I’m aware of comes from Japan.
Those medical bills have nothing to do with vaccines though just to head off any opinions :laugh
Unfortunately, I had to have surgery and then not work for six weeks.
