This is happening constantly in lower profile areas. Last summer two of my daughters went with a team from our church to muck out basements in Vermont for Mennonite Disaster Service following a local flood event.

Was the community completely wiped out? There’s been entire communities that are gone in both NC and TN due to Helene. The mountains in that area acted like a giant funnel and sent massive waves into the valleys. Even communities on mountainsides disappeared because of mudslides from the rivers overflowing and eroding the base of the mountains.

i appreciate pointing out the extensive and ongoing NC+TN devastation. thank you.

Parts of Vermont had a bad time, i believe this was reported:

Vermont Flooding 2024 - ABC22 News coverage Thursday, July 12

Recently, there was widespread high wind damage and power outages in Washington’s King County area, i don’t believe any fatalities, but a lot of damage. i read they eventually qualified for FEMA assistance. My family is in the middle of it. Power out for days. Scary and cold, but not nearly as bad as NC or VT, with awful flooding. They are super-prepared for fallen trees there, it happens frequently, not on this scale.

Headlines come+go, recovery takes TIME.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

No. The communities were not completely wiped out.

I'm so glad to hear that. I think our rural communities are at very high risk simply because they're smaller and don't get the attention they deserve. Any disaster is bad. The extent of the one in NC/TN can't be understated. It's a shame that the news 'moves on' to the next headline and these people are forgotten.

End of March, I'll be in Georgia for a week with a crew from our church doing some kind of rebuilding project from Helene damage. It's been a few years since I've done something like this, I'm looking forward to it.
