Bottom line, what has been has not been working and we have to recognize that and as Netanyahu just said, Israel was threatened with a worse attack than Oct 7.

Would YOU want to live in Gaza right now? If there is a better relocation place for them while Gaza is rebuilt (Newsflash: Trump doesn’t need the money) then the exploration of fresh ideas is better than repeating horrid history.

All around the world chants were praising the ethnic cleansing & desire to rid the world of Jews.

What was the plan of the previous administration?

Some Gazans.
The vast majority. Decisions like that have consequences.

Except that the vast majority in Gaza did not support Hamas all those years. Hamas had a quite low approval rating.

It was not until Israel and Gazans were at war did Hamas surge in popularity. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Instead of saying 'all these years' I should have researched how long Hamas actually controlled the government. It was in 2007. So one could say that the majority of Gazans who voted supported Hamas as its government for the past 16+ years.
Hamas has governed the Gaza Strip in Palestine since its takeover of the region from the rival Fatah-ruled Palestinian Authority on 14 June 2007.

This helps me understand what Hamas's goals seem to be.
Over the last five months, Israel has killed thousands of Hamas fighters, destroyed dozens of their tunnels and wreaked unprecedented destruction on the Gaza Strip.

But it still faces a dilemma that was clear from the start of the war and will ultimately determine its outcome: It can either try to annihilate Hamas, which would mean almost certain death for the estimated 100 hostages still held in Gaza, or it can cut a deal that would allow the militants to claim a historic victory.

Either outcome would be excruciating for Israelis. Either would likely seal an ignominious end for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s long political career. And either might be seen as acceptable by Hamas, which valorizes martyrdom.

I think Hamas’ goals have been quite explicit for quite a while. What’s difficult to understand are the Hamas apologists and supporters around the rest of the world.

Their goal is a free Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders. It seems like a just goal to me.

However, I can never justify violence, even though Israel has killed many more Palestinians than Palestinians have killed Israelis.

The majority of the Israel Palestinian wars have been instigated by the Arab side. To side with Hamas is ludicrous.

Also, Israel has twice offered a viable 2-state solution (2000 w/Ehud Barak, 2008 w/Ehud Olmert) and both times the Palestinians rejected it. Jews were consistently restricted from Palestine when it was in Christian and Arab control (see the White Papers as an example). My guess is if Israel ever gave land to the Arabs then Jews would again be restricted. I would also recommend you read the Hamas charter, it goes something like this:
"[Peace] initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement... Those conferences are no more than a means to appoint the infidels as arbitrators in the lands of Islam... There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility." (Article 13)

The Day of Judgment will not come about until Moslems fight Jews and kill them. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out: 'O Moslem, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him." (Article 7)

There's much more anti Jew rhetoric in the charter...this is actually fairly tame compared to some of it.

Regardless, death is sad from every side. I know many innocent Arabs have died. However, Hamas has mastered the art of deception warfare by firing rockets into Israel indiscriminately without regard for human life. The rockets are intentionally fired from densely populated areas in order to turn the narrative back against Israel when they retaliate. And, their plan is working...unfortunately.

Just to be clear, I have no sympathy for Hamas, not then, not now, not ever.
