Biden, Clinton, Gore also. All looking pretty sober in this shot - maybe they're all wondering how soon it'll be their turn.

I can’t remember, are funerals like this usually a federal holiday?

Needed to go to the post office today but will have to do FedEx/ups instead… commitments to deliver on time and expectations from eBay etc don’t change just because the post office decided to close today.

I also tried calling social security today. They have my newborn daugther’s info wrong. Well I found out real quick I won’t be talking to them today. A week from next Monday is also a federal holiday.

State and county offices are open.

I’m frustrated too. Stopped by the SSI office yesterday and it was bunged tight. I’ll have to go again next week. 112 mile round trip.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

Yes, that is traditional.

Here is GHW Bush's funeral which was a Federal holiday: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/national-d ... 2018-12-4/

It's a bit ridiculous. Somehow I doubt most workers at my local post office are mourning the death of Jimmy Carter - most of them are probably too young to even remember who he is.

Likewise, the federal government insists on making itself an integral, non-optional part of our lives... but then regularly votes itself new holidays, such as the new June 19th holiday. Did they also vote themselves a 1/249th pay cut? I doubt it.

Today I learned that Jimmy Carter and Berry Gordy, founder of Motown Records were third cousins. Their common ancestor was James Thomas Gordy, a Georgia plantation owner who fathered children with his wife and one of his slaves.

Technically it isn't a national holiday.

It is a national day of mourning which is something the country does every time a president dies going back to Abraham Lincoln.
