Sounds like Denver flight school will start in April or May.
Big life changes can be hard, there’s months now to get cold feet, for life to alter in some way to make it seem impossible.

For costs to increase. :-|
In the last 3 years, drastically increased costs have become the norm.
I’ve received notices about some 2025 cost increases .. often, there’s no notice.

i loathe to think, “what-if” military involvement ramps up in ways that stop the everyday world? It’s happened to so many,
esp in the last 3 years.

So. A few more months to wonder. Will this happen?

We have shifted our big family gathering to Christmas in PA. We planned the Iceland trip around the prognosis of my being in steep decline after September, but it looks like I’ll make it to next summer.

i’m wondering if these pilots are military-trained?
i once looked into requirements for civilian medical helicopter pilots (from what i learned at the time) these jobs are nearly always filled by military-trained pilots. understandable. i imagine it would be hard to get that kind of intense trainng and flight time, outside the military.

i’m with Angela in awe, respect, gratitude, for the pilots. humbling to witness. :)

Jan 29 2025 / Ronald Reagan National Airport

American Airlines Regional Jet CRJ-700 / Blackhawk Helicopter training flight
AA5342

Unwanted tragic news last night.
Sounds like an ice skating team+coaches on AA, military training flight on Blackhawk.

We’ve flown on flights with different school teams, tennis, baseball, football.
They’re always so happy and excited.

‘Military failing to obey’: Aviation expert on fatal mid-air collision outside Washington DC / -7min
Description:
Sky News aviation expert Byron Bailey has discussed the fatal crash near an airport outside Washington DC between a regional American Airlines flight carrying 64 people and a Black Hawk military helicopter.

“This was definitely the military failing to obey having told air traffic control they had the airliner in sight – it was up to them, their responsibility to pass behind as they were instructed to do and they didn’t,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray.
^^Expert opinion, not the final ruling.

VASAaviation / Audio of MID-AIR CRASH into Potomac River | Regional Jet and Black Hawk Helicopter / 8min
Description:
29/JAN/2025
PSA Airlines performing flight from Wichita to Washington National was on short final circling for runway 33 when the aircraft collided with a Military Army Sikorsky UH-60 and both aircraft fell into the Potomac River.

Local Police reported no survivors.

After confirmation on another frequency, PAT25 is heard during the following communication with Tower.
^^Includes audio and radar tracking. Painful to witness.

(It seems) most reports are using words like “crash” or “collision”, not “accident”, which i believe is best,
whether air collisions or on land motor vehicle collisions.

“Accident” is a judgment to be determined through investigation, which requires TIME.
There are legal consequences that vary based on fault. “Accident” is a powerful legal word for courts and insurance companies.

Below is another headline that doesn’t well match content (my opinion).
Byron Bailey describes the Blackhawk chopper being at 350’, not at or below the chopper area ceiling of 200’.

The video reflects the chopper flying steadily and directly into the CRJ. Why?? Accident or deliberate?
Not unlike the recent New Orleans truck driver deliberately driving into pedestrians. As has happened elsewhere.

The military will be the ones to know.
Never sure if the military will be forthcoming, but, with Trump in office, it may be more likely, and more quickly.

‘Cut and dry’: Aviation expert breaks down cause of deadly DC plane crash / -6min
Description:
Sky News aviation expert Byron Bailey has described the cause of the fatal collision between an American Airlines plane and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter as being “cut and dry”.

Officials have not yet provided any causal information behind the crash —
the deadliest aviation disaster in the US in more than two decades.

“The chopper actually rose to 350 feet and that was the last indication before the collision,” Mr Bailey told Sky News Australia.

“He shouldn’t have been there – he should have been at 200 – and the airliner at 400 feet.

“No-one needs the black boxes to work this one out, this is cut and dry really.”
The altitude is cut and dry. Now for intent.

22 hrs ago / Capt. Sully Sullenberger reacts to deadly DC plane crash / 4:44min
Description:
Sullenberger, who is known for being at the controls for the miracle landing on the Hudson River in 2009, shares his thoughts on the commercial jet-helicopter crash.
Sully is restrained, he describes various general aviation problems, not focused on this particular crash.
for instance, the need for longer runways .. which seemed not a factor in this crash. Looking back, i wonder if he was aware of the chopper’s altitude, he might have been. Altitude was not an immediate question in public reports.

Sully, now 74, is known for his expertise and nerves of steel.

Gary Baumgardner

Pilot Breakdown: What the News Won’t Tell You About the CRJ-700 & Black Hawk Collision / 15min
Description:
American Airlines Flight 5342 – What Went Wrong?
On January 29, 2025, American Eagle Flight 5342 (PSA Airlines) collided mid-air with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River near Washington, D.C. Tragically, there were no survivors from either aircraft, making this the deadliest U.S. airline crash in 16 years since Colgan Air Flight 3407 in 2009.

In this video, I break down:
Flight details & aircraft involved
How the collision happened
What this means for aviation safety moving forward
Gary B guesses, going forward, Runway 33 may be closed, or, helicopters not allowed near the airport.

He shared good visuals of the airport and area.
i enjoyed his brief informal descriptions of aircraft.

There must be THOUSANDS of reports, opinions, videos on this crash.
i’ve read/viewed many, i’m sure a tiny fraction of what exists.

i hope there’s a recording of what was going on in the chopper between 3 pilots!!
3 pilots failed to see the CRJ straight ahead??!!

1) It sure appears in videos there was ample time for the Blackhawk to avoid collision.
2) Not to mention, what was it doing at 350’?!

i’ve read conflicting reports about whether there was a black box in the chopper, and what it would have recorded.
What was going on in that chopper?

I guess when it comes to the collision in DC this past week, speculation does not help. Let the experts review the evidence, the black boxes/recordings etc. Until they see and examine no one has a clue what happened - even if it looks like something was evident.
Instead of speculating let's pray for all the families that are hurting.

i’m doing lots of both. i’m sure many are.
reports seem to have narrowed the central problem down to the chopper.

i pray the families turn off ALL media.
for me, even if all text and noise were silenced, the images of the collision would be unbearable.
