As I understand it:
1. There are polio vaccines that are not derived from human cells.
2. These are highly effective for presenting polio.
3. They are also safe.
4. I'm a little surprised that this is controversial. Why is it?
Anyone want to enlighten me?
I am posting this here because I would like to avoid discussing it as a political topic. I would also like to avoid discussing political nominees in this thread. Please keep the discussion focused on the first 4 questions, without introducing politics.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Re: Polio Vaccine - safety, effectiveness, avoiding fetal cells
Is it ok if we wait a few months and then cite the cdc, nih as “authoritative sources”?

Is the cdc. And nih acceptable as authoritative sources?

We are having the conversation now. I think you are asking me whether I believe that political influence will impact the CDC and NIH, making them say completely different things. That is not what this thread is about. Politics are excluded. I am not a fortune teller.JohnH wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:59 amIs it ok if I check back in a few months?

Regardless, I want to know what the scientific literature says. If you do not trust the CDC and NIH to summarize the literature, please provide other sources. But in this thread, I really would like people to answer the questions from the original post, explaining what they believe and why, with scientific or other non-political reasons.

I asked no such thing. I asked if we can simply talk about this again in a few months, and if the cdc and nih are authoritative sources in your view. Yes or no?Bootstrap wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 12:10 pmWe are having the conversation now. This sounds like a snarky tone, as if you think the things above are gospel truth and are waiting to correct someone who disagrees. Maybe I have mis understood your intent? As I understand it:

perhaps nobody wants to "enlighten" you, I sure don't, it just seems like getting into a fruitless argument

There is science and there is pseudoscience.Bootstrap wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 3:28 pm As I understand it:

You described the science behind the polio vaccine.
Anything different falls into the area of pseudoscience and at that point we might as well be talking about any other random nonsense like urine therapy, dietary supplements, or crystal healing as means of preventing polio.

Re: Polio Vaccine - safety, effectiveness, avoiding fetal cells
The polio vaccine has been around for nearly 70 years and there have literally been thousands of trials and studies on its efficacy over the past decades. What new information do you expect in the next couple of months? Is there some big new study on the polio vaccine in the works that we are unaware of?JohnH wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:59 amIs it ok if I check back in a few months?

Yes, when it comes to polio and the polio vaccine, the CDC and NIH are authoritative sources.
