George Blaurock

Many of us know about George Blaurock, how he was a strong man who took over a pulpit in a local church. It seems to me that in the last few years, I heard someone say that either Blaurock admitted this might not have been the right thing to do, or else some other contemporary Anabaptists questioned his action. Can anybody verify this for me or did I remember something incorrectly?

If Blaurock hadn‘t disturbed that Sunday service in Zollikon, the local brethren might have been able to continue their more or less clandestine meetings with the authorities looking the other way.

Truett McConnell is a Baptist school I think. I’m surprised they’re naming a building after an Anabaptist. Or was Blaurock Baptist? I’ve never heard of him.

Blaurock was the first Anabaptist to be rebaptized. He asked Grebel and Manz to baptize him.

Many Baptists claim Anabaptists as their spiritual forbearers, even though their doctrine is more aligned with that of Melchior Hoffman, an Anabaptist whose ideas about the two kingdoms was significantly different from what was commonly believed by Anabaptists.

Baptists are also rather fond of Hubmaier, since he did not have a problem with sword bearing.

Looks like I’ve got some reading to do. Baptists are kind of splintered into so many different groups and branches that probably that’s why they gave up trying to teach Baptist history in the SS rooms. Every independent church does its own thing.

Are there books or articles you recommend for reading about the Baptist connections to Anabaptism?

I just finished Estep's Story of Anabaptism which has a section on these connections. Here are the first several pages.

I bought the Kindle version when it was on sale for $3.99 a few months ago. Unfortunately is back over $20 now.

Undershepherd recommended this book a while back. It seems to be out of "print" from Kindle, though.
