Got a message on my account that I am 214% over my storage capacity. In 17 days I will not be able to use my email unless I pay $1.99/month. I deleted as much as I could and that number hasn't budged.
Any ideas? had this account since day one.
So now Hotmail wants me to pay for email?!

Most "free" email services have a limit on how much space on their servers you can have and expect you to purchase additional space once you exceed that limit.

Ask your employer for a raise. If he can give you an extra $0.02/hr, you can give 25% to Uncle Sam, 25% to charity, and the rest to Hotmail.the-real-steve wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 2:20 pm Got a message on my account that I am 214% over my storage capacity. If you are filling up your email it is probably because you have lots of saved messages with lots of big attachments.
Check your folders including your “sent mail” folder for messages with big attachments of documents, photos, or videos, and delete them or save them elsewhere. Depending on the interface you can usually sort based on message size and get all the big ones sorted to the top.
Also be sure to empty your trash folder. Often when you delete messages they just go to trash but aren’t really deleted until you empty the trash.
When the same thing has happened to me in the past it was mostly because I forgot to clean out my “sent mail” folder and actually empty out the trash.

Re: So now Hotmail wants me to pay for email?!
I did all that and deleted out the "delete" bin. Still no go. It is also still showing 900+ messages in my inbox, and there is now barely 50. Do I need to clear something else out?
Thanks for the help.

Do you have a spam folder hidden somewhere that might be full of junk?the-real-steve wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 4:18 pm I did all that and deleted out the "delete" bin. Still no go. It is also still showing 900+ messages in my inbox, and there is now barely 50. Do I need to clear something else out?

Well that is truly strange. Looks like I have about 20,000 email spanning well over 20 years in my hotmail account.the-real-steve wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 2:20 pm Got a message on my account that I am 214% over my storage capacity. Sure hope I don't get a warning like that...

I believe outlook.com email have the same layout as hotmail.com. On my outlook.com account, if you log into your email by browser, the emails are sorted by date automatically. You can sort by size. This should show you emails that are taking up a lot of space.the-real-steve wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 4:18 pm I did all that and deleted out the "delete" bin. Still no go. I assume you are set up as IMAP, not POP3. I have thousands of emails, but I'm still on POP3.
OR, are you sure it isn't a scam of some sort?
