Apple event - iPhone 16

Post by mike »

Is anyone interested in the Apple event happening today?

I would probably not pay attention if not for the fact that my 4-year-old iPhone has finally having issues and I've been trying to put up with it till the 16 comes out. It's the only iPhone I've ever had, a 12 Pro Max, and I am looking forward to getting a newer model. My sons have 14s or 15s, and I've been impressed with the light weight of the newer titanium frames compared to the older ones. I know there are a lot of other technical advances including possibly a physical zoom on the camera coming with the 16.

They are only expected to announce minor upgrades such as slightly better cameras. Not any large changes. They are also supposed to have AI features. But I'm kind of puzzled by that since AI is a software feature, not hardware. So if they roll out AI features on the 16 it seems likely that they will trickle down to the other phones through software and OS upgrades anyway.

What that means if you are looking for a new phone is that after today you'll have the option of picking up the newest 16 models for top dollar. Or the current generation 15 models at a discount. So you should see the prices on the 15s drop somewhat.

I just got so fed up with Verizon Business (my bill was $188 before taxes and fees, and somehow $320 after taxes and fees) that I’ve got two iPhone 15’s I’m returning today.

I pay around $270/month for 6 phones on my Verizon plan. It's not through Verizon business though.

Yeah. There were just all these extra "fees". One of then was an "Economic Adjustment Charge" of $2.98 per line. When setting up the account, they had no way to even say what extra taxes/fees would be. I have a feeling it is set up that way on purpose.

He. He. I'm still using an Iphone 8. I do need to upgrade though, because my battery life is really awful now.

I have been switching my children over to Visible, which oddly enough is a Verizon company, but where the rates are generally better, especially if you don't need anything fancy. They have two plans, one $25/mo and the other $45/mo.

I’m considering T-Mobile @ $25/mo (plus tax) for 4 lines and see how the reception is around here.

Everything else is going on Verizon personal acct which is $27/mo (plus hefty taxes and fees).

Used to have Spectrum Mobile (which runs on verizon’s network) for a flat $15/mo but I’m getting rid of Spectrum Internet due to it frequently going out of whack when it rains (strangely enough only ever on Saturdays).

We have 8 people plus 2 business phone lines, so it all sort of adds up…

I thought there were enough warnings about 5G that people would avoid it. We were just looking at buying 4G.
I asked a few days ago about if anyone is personally observing uptick in cancer. I've heard of 2 more since, and another passed a few days ago. Plus my coworkers sister having surgery for breast cancer today & hoping it's not in lymph nodes- cancer did not run in their family so they were all shocked.

I was sent this last night to listen to about 5G since we were cell phone shopping:

https://thehighwire.com/ark-videos/is-5g-the-enemy/

It's quite an alarming warning but it's not just about planes, she gets to the personal harm around 25 minutes.
