FYI, all of your posts already show the date, so there isn’t a need to post the date a second time in the body of the post.

A quoted post does not show the date unless a person takes the time to click on the little up arrow that takes you to that specific posting

Perhaps it depends which browser you're using? For me a quoted post displays the post date and time in the upper right corner of the quote.

My wholesale cost (I buy direct from an egg producer) for large white eggs by the pallet next week is $4.11 per dozen. If I would buy them from a regular wholesale distributor the price would be $4.46/dz. Retail eggs will be in the $5-6 range next week.

The reason given is the bird flu outbreaks that have been reducing supply in recent months, but it is just hard to believe that there is enough shortage to justify this level of increase. Last year this time our retails were around $1.79.

Prices at this level are completely unsustainable. People will just quit buying them.
Yes, I wonder how much the big companies will make off of this deal! :-(

If, as an egg producer, you can keep from ever getting bird flu (which is most producers), these big runs have to be really good for profits. However, sales drop off a cliff also, so volume is negatively affected. Heirbyadoption could maybe clue us in here (I sometimes buy eggs from the producer he works for).

Just bought 5 dozen eggs for $13.99. My wife says it was $11.99 until just recently.

Apparently a dozen large eggs should weigh around 1.5 pounds. Paying $3 a dozen is about $2 per pound which isn't bad for a protein. Often chicken is one of the cheapest proteins, but right now boneless pork loin is probably one of the best values in protein.

So Mike, what happened to the egg market then. I haven't been following...

A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.
