I am way behind on this one. Several folks referenced being at an Irish Catholic service. Why the Irish ? Was it simply in Ireland? I am truly curious what would make it different? I have attended Mass once in a blue moon far from home and unable to find a Latin one attended one in a language I do not know (Norwegian last time). But until they drink a lot I can follow how people in Ireland speak. :D

Temp, have you been unable to find a face-to-face fellowship to worship in?

To me, that's just been so life-giving. Online can never be a real substitute for face-to-face worship and fellowship.

This Sunday, i plan to revisit a VB video i added yesterday:

to teach us about the ever-loving truth and the parallels we see between the culture in Acts 4 and our culture.”

It was a very good sermon. Unfortunately, 20 minutes later, I’ve completely forgotten what it was… except a few of the illustrations.

Our leaders are on their last week of vacation so a brother gave the sermon on Matthew 11:28-30.

Some experience the Christian life as a struggle, a burden and very difficult. But Jesus said His ways are not burdensome or difficult. The question was raised are we living in that rest or are we trying to live a Christian life and it is hard to do ? Perhaps we feel the whole load of life is on our shoulders and it can be if we don't allow Him to share the load. When we do, Jesus says the burden will be light.

When I find my love, joy and peace quite low, it is usually because I am trying to carry the burdens of life on my own strength. I am not being yoked with Jesus and experiencing a light burden. If we find ourselves in this weary state, Jesus says to come to Him to learn and He will give us rest for our soul.

This Sunday's sermon was about manna, the feeding of the 5,000, and our daily dependence on God's sustaining power. The preacher urged us to never stop chewing on that manna, using the vivid example of a piece of steak that you chew and chew on, imagining a piece of steak that we never stop chewing and always keeps giving us sustenance.

Relying on God as a way of life.

In our church, there is discussion after the sermon, with people sharing their own perspectives on the text or what they learned from the sermon. This can last quite a while. This week, people shared quite personally about how they had to learn to depend on God in their life. I have some things goin g on in my own life, and I also shared about how this has been important to me recently. And after church, we hang out and talk with each other for quite a while, it was almost an hour for me this week. We also had three Hispanic people whom we had not seen for a very long time, it was good to catch up with them.

The fellowship is really, really important to me. This is a very diverse church socioeconomically, multiracial, with differing points of view on politics and other matters, but unified in Jesus and the Bible. The love is very real here, you can trust it. That's one really big reason why I am here. It's one of the first things I look for in a church.

Our bible text today was in the Revelation chapter 3 talking about the church in Philadelphia. This reminded me of a Gospel Quartet I was in during my twenties and we called ourselves 'The Philadelpians' as we desired to be like that church mentioned here.

Next Sunday it will be about the church in Laodicea and I have heard many sermons on this church relating it to modern Christianity. I'm interested to hear what our Major has to say about this 'lukewarm' (spiritually useless) church and how we need to be a church that Jesus would not 'spit out of his mouth' like tasting a drink that was to be either hot or cold but was neither.

Today was another blessed meeting as our leaders returned from a little vacation.
