I guess I'm about to find out - I ordered the EGO Power+ 56V 17.5-in trimmer, and added one of their leaf blowers as well since I could get the leaf blower, battery and charger for only $50 more than the cost of a single battery.

All the generic batteries on Amazon had reviews saying run time is about 75% of OEM Ego batteries, so I got one OEM and one knock-off battery and we'll see how we like it.

No battery powered string trimmer will hold up long on an acreage property. You still need to go gas unless you want to trim for an hour then charge for a few hours. Pretty costly to run extra batteries when a gas powered will just keep going and have more power to cut.

I would not get the 22cc motor either. At least a 25 or higher to power through the thick grass. I like the plastic rigid blades for those big jobs.

I was thinking of getting those rigid blades - how concerned should I be about safety?

They bounce off shoes and boots. I have never had an issue. The blades are plastic so they will wear and break at times. Always have a few extra with you.

That sounds like far less of a pain than a bump spool that never seems to reliably unspool.

I have a dewalt 60V I “inherited” and an old Stihl gas one. The two of them together make a good tag team.

I’m trying to use calves to keep fence lines trimmed by keeping the bottom wire fairly high up. For whatever reason they just love browsing as far under it as they can, and it looks clean and neat.
