Russian soldiers are apparently putting blue stripes on their helmets to confuse Ukranian drone operators. Is this a relatively new thing or is it as old as wars? I was under the impression that armies in the past pridefully displayed their own colors of their military and would not have ever used enemy colors.
I took a look at the article, I didn’t actually see anything about blue stripes just a bunch of garbage ads. I really don’t like those websites…
if some thing keeps you from getting shot they’re going to do it even if the upper leadership says no.
In our military in combat, our uniforms generally don’t have something bright to target.

You are asking us?

The rules of war require that combatants wear identifiable uniforms. So as to not be mistaken for civilians. But I don't think colored duct tape on helmets qualifies.

I expect they do whatever they can to avoid getting shot at. And the Ukrainians will adapt likewise. This is a conventional war with pretty well defined battle lines. It isn't a guerilla war like Vietnam or Afghanistan where enemy soldiers appear out of nowhere and then disappear. The Ukrainian drone operators should have a pretty good idea where their own guys are and where the enemy Russians are.

Thanks for adding this.
i’m new to T Carlson, not familiar with anything about him. He has interesting guests.
On a personal level, i don’t care for him. His girlish giggles, his way of fawning over guests, “i’m just like that!” - do not strike me as sincere. Yet, he is popular.

i’m about half-thru this 2+hr video. i appreciate the content.
these questions have been asked since early in this topic. on forum, mostly rejected out of hand.

frankly, the immediate rejectors may not have read the material or viewed videos. their minds are made up!

i do not believe the U.S. is an innocent bystander or heroic in Ukraine.
i’m very sorry to say.

^^i’m getting through the above Tucker Carlson - Jeffrey Sachs interview.
i’m not sold on TC, but Jeffrey Sachs is very interesting!
Description:
Professor Jeffrey Sachs is the President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University.

He is the author of many best selling books, including The End of Poverty and The Ages of Globalization.

Here he is with probably the smartest and most accurate assessment of the Ukraine war, and American foreign policy more broadly, ever caught on tape.

Chapters:
0:00:00 Intro
0:20:17 Why did America push for Ukraine to Join NATO?
0:58:34 What is a Neocon?
1:25:28 Regime Change Never Works
1:36:27 Who Blew up the Nord Stream Pipeline?

Zelensky Names One Condition for Ukraine to Give Up Territory
https://www.newsweek.com/zelensky-ukrai ... ry-1932956
.. Decisions on Ukrainian territorial integrity cannot be made by the president but by the Ukrainian people, he said in the interview with French outlets Le Monde, AFP and L'Equipe published Wednesday. ..
.. After two and a half years of war, Russia and Ukraine are a long way from negotiations— but recent surveys in Ukraine have pointed to a shift in opinion among the population toward the prospects of talks.

Polling in May by the Kyiv International Institute for Sociology (KIIS) found a third (32 percent) of Ukrainians would accept ceding territory for peace and independence compared with 26 percent in February this year and 9 percent in February 2023.

More than half (55 percent) are still opposed giving up territory to Russia if it would end the war, but this was down from 74 percent in December 2023. Meanwhile, Ukrainian news outlet ZN.UA reported in July that 44 percent of people in the country agreed that the time had come to start negotiations with Russia. ..

A poorly thought out probe. Russia of course seems to be incompetent at dealing with it.

I've read concerns about the strategy for this. I've seen suggestions that part of the intent is to reduce pressure in the Donbass as the Russians have to redirect their military forces to Kursk, which makes sense?

The attack and its current success certainly damage the view that Russia is invulnerable and can attack its neighbors with impunity.

I have lots of questions -- including how the West is going to respond to this -- but we'll see how this shapes out. I'm curious how committed the Ukrainians are in the attack on region around Kursk. Is it a diversion or do they intend to control Russian territory for as long as they can?

An article I saw early this morning on the BBC mentioned some sort of Russian military establishment that they thought was the goal for this short-term counter-invasion. (I cannot find that article at all now.) Like the purpose was to go in, destroy the target, then get out. If that is the case, they apparently thought that a drone or air attack would be more certainly intercepted. Who knows?)

Well, a realistic question is how they actually brought the troops into Russians territory. I haven’t read that much, but I would say it risks broadening in the war line that they have already.
From what I heard, it’s only 1000. If that’s the case without a supply line, they’re not going to be able to continue combat longer than about 7-10 days. Russia could conceivably just ignore it and use it as propaganda for their own country, although they likely will do something eventually. Ukraine is unable to actually hold any of the territory they pursue without digging in with substantial effort and they do not have the resources to spread to a second front. This move basically is political, part of their issue, though is if they look capable to launch attacks and raids, then it could hamper efforts to get supplies. At the same time, not doing anything risks other countries deciding it’s a lost cause.

My guess is they’re hoping Russia diverts substantial forces to show a grand response that might allow them to gain a little territory elsewhere. This just presents as another tactic from their president and not the generals.
