I just spoke to Dad. He’s doing a lot better. He sounded pretty good without the slurring or confusion from previous conversations. He’s waiting for a consult with an Ears Nose and Throat specialist over whether he will need surgery from the impact. Unfortunately, it can take a while to meet with one.
Thanks for the prayers.

We will continue to include him in our prayers.Szdfan wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 7:15 am I just spoke to Dad. He’s doing a lot better. Re: Prayer Request: Szdfan’s Dad
Dad went home yesterday. He doesn’t need surgery for his nose and his brain seems to be recovering. He told me on the phone this morning that he’s exhausted and sleeping a lot, but grateful to be home.
He can see with his left eye, but said he physically has a hard time opening it.
Dad has some follow up appointments coming up.
I’m grateful for the prayers. All things considered, Dad is recovering from the accident a lot better than we had initially feared. This could have gone a lot worse, thank God.

Re: Prayer Request: Szdfan’s Dad
So Dad posted that the current theory is that he didn't pass out on his bike and crashed, but rather that he crashed and passed out as he hit the asphalt.
He was apparently coming down a hill and hit a 3 cm wide and 5 cm deep gap between the road asphalt and new concrete curb casting.
He then says, "Looks like a good helmet, goggles and very cautious driving will need to be part of any biking future for me."
I'm totally ready for my Dad to NOT have a biking future and do something sensible and buy a Lada, but ultimately children have to let their parents go and let them deal with the consequences of their decisions.

Maybe determination, passion and a touch of the contrarian run in the family...
Glad to hear recovery is going well.

Re: Prayer Request: Szdfan’s Dad
Well...Dad was born Amish, grew up in Sarasota, FL after his family joined the Conservative Mennonites, ended up in eastern Europe in the 70s with Eastern Board and MCC, didn't get along with the agencies, so left and got his doctorate in political science in West Berlin, spent the next forty years as a "freelance missionary" and church journalist, wanted to become an East German citizen (Mom said no), now lives in Russia, is married to a Russian and became a Russian citizen right before the invasion of Ukraine. So their might be a bit of contrariness running in my family?
I'm, of course, the most agreeable person who has ever walked the planet.
ThanksGlad to hear recovery is going well.
