I’m not really interested in treating as credible anyone who thinks taking 3 year olds away from their mothers is “opportunity”, mass voter registration is somehow a good thing, or that what we really need is more proliferation of “financial services” everywhere. One of the biggest enemies of the people is the big banks.

Raj Chetty's program is relocating people from the bad parts of big cities to affordable places elsewhere where they can find work. I think that includes things like day care for single mothers who need to work and banks to finance homes.Josh wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2024 10:17 pmI’m not really interested in treating as credible anyone who thinks taking 3 year olds away from their mothers is “opportunity”, mass voter registration is somehow a good thing, or that what we really need is more proliferation of “financial services” everywhere. But I pointed to that map specifically because of the information it has on housing affordability by county, income by county, etc.

Daycares sounds like something that will make a bad part of town, not a good part of town. Promoting single motherhood is part of what makes a “bad part” of town, is it not?

Yep, access to preschools is what makes neighborhoods bad and kills property values. You nailed it.Josh wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 2:36 pmWhat makes some parts cities “bad parts”?Bootstrap wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 8:05 amRaj Chetty's program is relocating people from the bad parts of big cities to affordable places elsewhere where they can find work. Concentrating all the poverty in one place, far from resources, with bad schools and high crime rates, makes bad neighborhoods. Mixed neighborhoods do much better. Instead of subsidizing HUD housing in a few areas, Chetty suggests that we identify places people can afford to live, places where evidence tells us people are more likely to thrive, and make it easier for people to move to those places.Josh wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 2:36 pmWhat makes some parts cities “bad parts”?Bootstrap wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 8:05 am Raj Chetty's program is relocating people from the bad parts of big cities to affordable places elsewhere where they can find work. Thing is, single mothers already exist. And if we make it hard for them to get ahead, their children suffer. And society suffers the consequences of that - for both the current generation and the next.
I'm against abortion. To me, that also implies being in favor of helping single mothers and others who chose to have a baby when it was inconvenient.
Beyond that, poverty exists. Any program that actually helps them is a good thing. To me, identifying better places for poor people to live is good.

Poverty and poor people don’t cause crime, bad schools, or bad neighbourhoods.
Bad neighbourhoods are not something like a climate or the weather. They are caused by bad people doing bad things, like choosing to have children outside of wedlock.
I don’t really want it to be easier for criminals to move to, for example, where I live.Mixed neighborhoods do much better. Instead of subsidizing HUD housing in a few areas, Chetty suggests that we identify places people can afford to live, places where evidence tells us people are more likely to thrive, and make it easier for people to move to those places.
I am fine with poor people moving here. But we already have plenty of poor people.
If we make it easier to be a single mother, we will get more single motherhood. We should make it harder to be a single mother and then we will have fewer children out of wedlock and more children would be adopted into loving 2 parent homes.Thing is, single mothers already exist. And if we make it hard for them to get ahead, their children suffer. And society suffers the consequences of that - for both the current generation and the next.
I’m against murdering babies.I'm against abortion. To me, that also implies being in favor of helping single mothers and others who chose to have a baby when it was inconvenient.
I am also against fornication.
Poverty and poor people are fine. Single motherhood is not (although single motherhood can create poverty).Beyond that, poverty exists. Any program that actually helps them is a good thing. To me, identifying better places for poor people to live is good.
Single motherhood is bad even if it’s done by a wealthy person.
Single mothers create bad places to live, crime, and bad neighbourhoods. I don’t want to make it “easier” for them to come and pollute where I live. They should give up their babies for adoption.

Re: Where can you afford a home on your income?
It’s the facts. Choosing fornication and single parenthood is a selfish, sinful choice, particularly when the very good “out” of adoption is there in the table to reconcile this bad situation.
Children of single mothers are more likely to grow up to be criminals. That’s what makes “bad neighbourhoods”. Instead of spreading the problem, how about we fix it at its source?
