It would be possible to have endless political discussion here without mentioning Biden, Trump, conspiracy theorizing, or posting YouTube clips with people making strange faces. For example:

The politics of climate change, reducing carbon use, clean energy, fuel efficiency standards, conversion of coal and gas to electricity via solar, wind, nuclear, etc.

Electrification of the transportation system. EVs, electric trucks and trains, etc.

Farm policy and the subsidization of processed foods and junk foods over healthy eating, unpasteurized foods and so forth.

Health care policy: Obamacare versus Medicare for all, vaccines, parental rights vs. the state versus children’s rights.

Housing policy and why housing is becoming so unaffordable (another new thread that just started)

Education policy: Religion and the public schools, LGBT student rights, censorship, curriculum related to racism, history, science, etc.

Immigration policy and politics

The politics of criminal justice

The urban versus rural political divide

The politics of firearms and gun control, school shootings, etc.

The politics of abortion and other related topics like IVF, contraception, sex education, divorce, sex outside marriage.

The politics of LGBT rights

Environmental protection.

Politics is an endlessly fruitful area of discussion.

Well, I would say that politics is about what kind of world we want to live in and how we achieve that in a public fashion using government. As opposed to say the purely private world of family, church, etc.

The fact is that in a democracy such as ours, nothing much ever happens without some level of consensus and they way we get there is by talking about things with each other. Including places such as this. It might take a very long time to get there. And there are some topics for which we might never reach consensus. But there are also many things that we accept today with overwhelming consensus that were once highly controversial and divisive. For example, Medicare and Social Security are viewed positively by over 80% of Americans today. A couple of generations ago such programs were seen as outrageous socialism.

Josh wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2024 1:36 amThe Ken Challenge: discuss any political topic without brining up Trump.
i propose
The Ken Challenge: discuss any political topic without bringing up Trump
The Grace Challenge: discuss any political topic without bringing up Biden and family
The Temporal1 Challenge: discuss any political topic without posting any links to anything.

to last for one week. (there is NO prize involved)

feel free to post any encouraging words to the three who are being challenged
encouraging, not gotcha's
Hey, how come Boot doesn't get a challenge? "Discuss any political topic without bringing up Trump." "And no thread starters, targeting other posters".
this thread is not about boot.

this thread is because temporal asked for a challenge, and then i saw josh's post to ken. which brought about a light bulb idea.
so, if ken is being challenged, then his counterpart, which is you, grace, also needs the same challenge.
and temporal got included because it was her idea.

And how about the Josh challenge. Discuss any political topic without bringing up any larger “conspiracies” of any sort.
like i told grace, this thread is not about boot.
i'll say the same thing, this specific thread is not about josh either
we might expand the challenge later, or we might not.
depends on the path this thread takes
