I have my thoughts on the subject and it doesn't stop with men wearing shorts. I also think skinny jeans a just dumb, jeans with holes already in them, etc. I'm no fashionista if you haven't noticed by now.Sudsy wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 3:06 pm
Curious - does the scripture say anything about men wearing shorts ? Seems to me the dress mode for peasant men in NT times was a tunic which was white and knee-length and to work or run he tucked it up into the girdle round his waist – an action known as 'girding up the loins'. I think if we are going to be real NT followers in dress, we men better band our long pants with buttons or zippers and pockets. If it has to do with modesty then I believe long robes are much less revealing of a man's form than pants. And sandals would be our foot wear.

Pride is a major sin God hates and this can come out in these comparisons of how we judge others in their sanctification.
Aka, word play.
If that is how you chose to take it, thats your choice.
Ah yes, these vague hand wave generic responses to one specific user about a specific point they make that isn’t at all addressed to the specific user.Sudsy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 11:53 am Again, I did not directly address you as being prideful. I don't believe these forums are a place to do the judging of sin in other believers but rather this judging is a practise for the local church and it has specific format to be carried out. It is not for a forum setting.
You have expressed before your opinion that this forum is a church of sorts and you have also expressed the ideals of a universal church in lieu of belonging to a local body. I really think you don’t have consistency.
I will accept your charges if you show me references I have made proving them to me.
Besides, that stance you expressed means no one can address sin in your life as you avoid being part of a body.
So, are you part of a body? Do you recognize a local body has having any authority over you? Do you recognize any other believer as part of the same body able to judge those (you) in the church?
I fellowship in a local church and if a local church brother came to me to get me to correct a sinful way and did this according to how scripture says to do it in Matthew 18:15-17, I would listen to what they had to say. If I did not agree with them after they followed this procedure, I would seek fellowship elsewhere. But this forum is not a local church and is not set up to act like one.
I believe as stated before that you are a brother in sin who I am attempting to address. As you rejected any authority of any Christian here, I write not to you, but to others so that your views are clear.Regarding the 'in' or 'out'. If you are using these words as meaning either 'saved' or 'unsaved' and you believe judging can be done by any believer on any other professing believer, am I 'saved' or 'unsaved' / 'in' or 'out' with my situation of being remarried ? Some comments appear that I am 'in/saved' while others that I am 'out/unsaved' in your view. [/color]
So you see me as still saved. And if I died in this practise of sin as you view it, as a brother, I would still be saved. Thats good to know.Sounds like you believe in eternal security.
But I kinda doubt that.
Scripture is clear to your state before God, you dispute this as a flawed understanding but reject the notion that the Spirit always agrees with Scripture as our understanding is flawed meaning whatever you think it means is what the spirit tells you. Very dangerous when the spirit you listen to has no testing on teaching.
Scripture is clear to you in the way you understand it. That does not mean you have a clear, correct understanding of it anymore than I do. However, I am going with my understanding and if I am wrong, I believe, the Holy Spirit will correct me when He sees fit. If the Spirit tells me to listen to you for direction then I should obey. At this point I have no such direction.

Re: Progressive/Conservative threshold?
I believe one should live by their convictions and not impose them on others. But I am more open to considering the convictions of others when they have a scriptural base. I think we Christians can expand, for lack of better word, on certain scriptures, somewhat like the Pharisees did in Jesus time, and go off track to what is most important in following Jesus. In the Pharisees case they wanted the approval of men in their religious ways. That is always a temptation of the ego. God knows what is really in our hearts as we work out our sanctification.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 1:09 pmI have my thoughts on the subject and it doesn't stop with men wearing shorts. Sudsy, you could do so much better by using quotes instead of color. Makes replying to you a real mess.
If only you would do as you say and not as you do.

Re: Progressive/Conservative threshold?
So is this the way you are choosing to ignore my rebuttals because of my use of colours ?
Perhaps we should both give Matthew 7:2 more consideration -
With that I will turn the other cheek and end my part in this discussion. Have at it, if you care to, I am dusting off my feet and moving on.“Do not judge, or you will be judged. For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?

Re: Progressive/Conservative threshold?
As far as ignoring your argument, it’s very difficult to reply to a messy code and look up your prior posts on history while using a phone.Sudsy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 5:40 pm
So is this the way you are choosing to ignore my rebuttals because of my use of colours ?And yes, I am the only hypocrite here. Somebody has to be the resident hypocrite.
I'm a hypocrite, an adulterer, inconsistent, deceptive, living in sin, will not take advice, listening to other spirits. Anything else you would like to throw in your judgments ?
Adulterer, yes, hypocrite? Who isn’t in some way… inconsistent plays right along with that for most of us in one way or another. Listening to other spirits? When what you teach and argue for is in contrast to Scripture, yes, other spirits is an accurate description. The Holy Spirit does not disagree with God and is in perfect harmony with Jesus’s word.
I didn’t accuse you of being unwilling to take advice, at least not intentionally.
Deceptive… I accept that you didn’t intentionally make insinuations but they are.
“Do not judge, or you will be judged. For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?
I’d have more respect if you did that instead of reading into my posts and then continuing with insinuations that end up not addressed to me.With that I will turn the other cheek and end my part in this discussion. Have at it, if you care to, I am dusting off my feet and moving on.
We can agree to disagree again but I will continue to challenge your posts when they teach falsehood as you seem equally compelled to do for your beliefs.
I’ll leave it be as you also do.

Query: Physical abuse only? Or do you include verbal and emotional abuse as well?
