My first ambulance partner was a dairy farmer. (keep in mind he was Horning Mennonite!). He would go to the beer distributor and buy the cheapest beer in a glass bottle. When cows would get "twisted stomach" they would pop the cap of the beer bottle and stick it in the cow's mouth and she would slurp the bottle dry. A few hours later, problem solved.
One night when I was working third shift, I had a pedigreed rabbit turn very ill. On a hunch, I drove to the local tavern, bought a can of cheap beer and put in it the rabbit's water bottle. Not expecting the bunny to survive the night, I went to work figuring I'd come home to a dead rabbit in the morning.
Came home the next day and the rabbit was fine. No idea if the beer helped or not.

Robert!Robert wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 10:19 amIt was a mock shoplifting. The state had changed the laws and the news paper wanted to do a write up about it. The store manager told me to take the reporter around and show him how it was done. No one in the store knew. They called the Police in, they handcuffed me and escorted me right through the store like that. I just told the other employees "It's a bum rap!"
The article came out and there was a picture of me on the front page and the caption said, "Shoplifter Robert Martz confronted by Store manager." Two paragraphs in on the article it said it was a mock shoplifting to show how it was done, but other than that one sentence, no where else in the article did it sound as fake. Yes, my first experience with fake news!!![]()
Needless to say, my father was quite upset because we were quite known in town and in church.
The best part is when I would be running the register checking people out and they would know me, understood the article and say something about me being arrested for shoplifting. The next person in line who did not know me would be very slow in handing me their money.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.
”Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.” Robert Martz
