As a general rule, MennoNet is not an accurate place to get information about the Catholic church. Many people come here and expound many different opinions, which may or may not be moored in reality.
I have often chosen to bide my time and let blatant misinformation go.

RZehr, thanks for pointing this out.RZehr wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 3:54 pmAt the same time, it does sort of have a fresh, blunt, clarity to it.ohio jones wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 1:50 pmThat's not helpful, nor is it within the forum guidelines, if it's what you intended to say.
This is an example of why i wouldn’t want to be a moderator.
i’m enjoying this topic, started by CM, or cM, i’m not sure.
Naturally, Catholic views are pertinent. It’s helpful to know how+why things unfolded as they did in history, and, how things are today. i’m not sure i can very well imagine a time when Catholicism was the formal state Church, i’m pretty certain now i have ancestors on both sides, quite weighted on Protestants+Anabaptists, but, let’s face it, these groups came out of the RCC. Often unwillingly.
JayP is new to MN, to begin, his personal candor is “above average,” this invites respect. It suggests, “A man without guile.”
i don’t presume this is easy or painless. It sure is something Jesus appreciates.

You can have the best message in the world, but the person on the receiving end will always understand it through the prism of his or her own emotions, preconceptions, prejudices, and preexisting beliefs.”
“Words that work, whether fiction or reality, not only explain but also motivate.
They cause you to think as well as act.
They trigger emotion as well as understanding.”

Simplicty: Use small words
Brevity: Use short sentences

Consistency matters
Novelty: Offer something news
Sound and texture matters
Speak aspirationally, people forget what you say but not how you made them feel
Visualize, the word “imagine” is an incredibly powerful tool
Ask a question, help them reach the point on their own

Is this okay with moderators that JM keeps suggesting Catholics aren’t welcome on this forum?
Also, the comment is quite off topic. How about instead of just inserting gratuitous anti-Catholic bigotry into threads perhaps JM should consider starting his own threads?
The persecution of Anabaptists is also another potential topic to start a new thread if he so wishes.

Re: Baptism in the Catholic Church
By the way, just to be clear, except where I might specifically say so, I’ve never said my thinking represents THE Catholic point of view. I am A Catholic but there are as many different kinds of thinking within Catholicism as there are within anabaptism, including polar opposites.
I think it’s fair to say that the traditional Catholic view of liberalism is that it glorifies ignorance of Biblical teachings turning it into a principle of freedom, progress and equality — that is my shorthand assessment of it. For all that can be said in favor of it, I do think that is a fair criticism of liberalism — and in my opinion you’d have to be blind not to see it!
If you hear those guys in the video talking about how the Church since Vatican II has been influenced by the sexual revolution, feminism, and neomarxist social justice issues I think it’s pretty clear how all that is supported by liberalism in general.
I do not say sexual abuse in the RCC was caused by liberalism but I do believe the widespread prevalence of it within the RCC is due in large measure to the permeation of liberal thinking within its institutions.

I am suggesting that if you want accurate information on the “Church of Rome” this is not tha place to get it. If you want a forum for which you perceive as anti-catholic comments are censored, remember, this is a MENNONITE forum. I could start quoting the Pillars of our faith who were vehemently anti-catholic. I could quote some of our confessions of faith that are equally anti catholic.Falco Knotwise wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 1:57 pmNaw. You want “respect” for the institution of the Church of Rome? You likely will not find it from me i will not kowtow to the antichrist Church of Rome.

Btw, not all Mennonites share your bigotry here, despite the impression you’re trying to give. I’ve been on this forum for years, haven’t met with your level of hatred yet. Are you out to turn the rest of them into bigots?
