Hee hee. I’m joking, of course! I would not expect anything quite that drastic, but I wouldn’t consider reversals of modernist policies out of the question.temporal1 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 5:59 pmo.good night. what next?Falco Knotwise wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 5:44 pm It wouldn’t surprise me if, on the future anniversary of one of Pope Francis’ Synods on Synodality, another Cadaver Synod is held in his honor like the one for Pope Formosus. In that synod, the body of Pope Formosus was exhumed from the grave and then sat down in a court to formally face charges. He was then was assigned an attorney and a person was authorized to speak on his behalf.
After he was found guilty of all charges his body was then dumped unceremoniously into the river!

The Cadaver Synod: Putting a Dead Pope on Trial
Why did Pope Stephen VI go to such great lengths to destroy an enemy who was already dead?

i wouldn’t expect this for Pope Francis. The worldly powers will protect his remains.

Not sure offhand who you're referring to here.
Wide circulation is not such a wild idea. More people had access to more printed materials than before, and it was a significant change. Translation was also a significant change, as not everyone who could read was fluent in Latin. If you think putting certain religious writings down on more wildly circulating paper or that God jumped on to play a big role, I have some bridges to sell you.
Erasmus did, but it would have been of great benefit to the early Waldensians as well as the Lollards.

Keep in mind that priests bless pets on St. Francis' Feast Day. They do not bless pets as a part of a wedding sacrament. There are many blessings for inanimate objects too, e.g. cars, houses, etc. However, in the document that was published today, the Pope said that such blessings should not be part of regular Church rituals or related to civil unions or weddings.
It also added that its definition of marriage was a lifelong sacrifice between a man and a woman.
The Vatican said the change should be a sign that "God welcomes all", however the decision of whether to allow the blessings would be operated on a case-by-case basis.

Re: Baptism in the Catholic Church
patience, patience. as you get to know the personalities here, you’ll begin to appreciate them.
they’re worth it.
i feel welcomed in this smaller parish with my granddaughter, and i am grateful for the blessing. i feel it’s sincere, i accept with sincerity.above, i wrote:
.. When i attend CC, as a visitor, i do not receive communion. i receive a blessing. ..
i have no fantasies the said organized political bloc, in or out of the RCC, will accept this offer for blessing as in any way adequate.
pride doesn’t know gratitude.

Blessngs do not go unquestioned... The previous question did not refer to my personal opinion regarding the appropriateness of these blessings, but to whether they were permitted or not. The essence of my answer to that question was that the issue was not clear from a legal point of view and, barring an authoritative statement from the Holy See, it depended on the local authorities to judge the opportunity of accepting or rejecting this practice.
The admirable Archbishop Chaput has taken a characteristically lucid position on the issue, and, while his article is not a formal liturgical norm, it both clarifies the question for his archdiocese, and provides guidance to other pastors weighing the pros and cons of this still nascent custom.
However, the fact remains that many bishops have made approving comments regarding it and some have actually participated in such blessings. Thus the legal issue at the heart of the original question remains doubtful. Indeed, as one reader has helpfully informed me, the bishops' conference of England and Wales has published a fairly authoritative statement on this issue, to wit:
"Even though some in the assembly may not receive 'sacramental' Communion, all are united in some way by the Holy Spirit. The Traditional idea of spiritual communion is an important one to remember and re-affirm. The invitation often given at Mass to those who may not receive sacramental communion — for example, children before their first communion and adults who are not Catholics — to receive a 'blessing' at the moment of Communion emphasizes that a deep spiritual communion is possible even when we do not share together the Sacrament of the Body and blood of Christ" (the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, "Celebrating the Mass: A Pastoral Introduction," (Catholic Truth Society, April 2005, In number 212, pg 95)."
I would note that the bishops here interpret the blessing itself as a kind of spiritual communion and so the basic thrust of their thinking is the same as that of Archbishop Chaput.
As the gauntlet has been hurled, so to speak, regarding my personal view, I admit to sharing Archbishop Chaput's misgivings as to the appropriateness of some practical aspects of imparting these blessings. ..
In 2005, “the gauntlet” was unlikely to be considering sodomy. It’s 2023. Pope Frances.

Re: Baptism in the Catholic Church
i don’t, mainly because, witnessing the HUGE Catholic priest abuse scandals, 1990’s-forward, at the time, as an outsider, not even a visitor, at that time, i expected widespread damage, possibly collapse, of the RCC. It didn’t happen (as i imagined).Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 10:19 am Breaking news:

Damage was done, ripple effects continue.
At the same time, WIM and homosexuals in ministry ran like wildfire in most denoms. i recall this as all intertwned, if not, one of the greatest “coincidences” of all time. Damage was done, ripple effects continue. In and beyond Catholicism. Consider the current Methodist church split.
i consider Pope Frances as part of the ripple effect. A willing proponent. i’m sorry to say.
i enjoy Cardinals Sarah and Burke. i used to hope one of them would be the next pope.
It’s kinda hard to remember now how scandalous things were, late 1990’s-ish.
The internet allowed victims of decades to “find each other” in ways never before possible.
A ton of historical hierarchical gaslighting was brought to an end. In the RCC and elsewhere.
Recall, this was part of Martin Luther’s complaint. Carnal sin. Mortal sin.
Not just churches. Remember the Boy Scouts.
Sin does not stay confined.

Personally, I suspect liberalism/modernism at the root of that crisis. Their followers are like arsonists who go round lighting fires themselves and then enjoy standing around to mock the firemen trying to put it out. Once that’s out, it’s on to starting another fire somewhere else. Rinse and repeat.temporal1 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 6:30 pmi don’t, mainly because, witnessing the HUGE Catholic priest abuse scandals, 1990’s-forward, at the time, as an outsider, not even a visitor, at that time, i expected widespread damage, possibly collapse, of the RCC.
