Major attack on Israel by Hamas

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

I don’t consider both groups “equally immoral” either.

There is only one country involved here and yes Israel has signed all of the Geneva Conventions.

Israel claims they don't apply in Gaza and the West Bank because Israel says they are not independent nations. In other words, Israel's position is essentially this is an internal Israeli matter and therefore International law does not apply. Any more than international law would apply if say the US military was conducting operations in Arizona.

It is a neat "Catch 22" that Israel has concocted. Since Palestine does not exist, international law does not apply. Or so they claim.
Doesn’t sound any different then any of our convenient excuses we make almost every war.
Might makes right. And in this case USA is backing them.

In fact, if there were two countries, there might not be a war. Isn't that what Palestinians want?

That just isn’t realistic. They would still be attacked.

Moral equivalence is a dead end. It only results in justifying the wrong one side does because the other side is considered worse. And both sides will say that. It's a race to the bottom. Are walking and chewing gum morally equivalent?

Each side is responsible for what it does.

And what each side does has ramifications for trying to build peace again at the end of the conflict.
Well that’s the thing of it…and incidentally why Christians must not participate in war. There is never a morally pure side that commits zero injustices. In war both sides engage in evil to some degree or other. Nevertheless, God has ordained the state to use violence to punish evil. I don’t see how Israel can do anything other than punish Hamas and make sure they never have the ability to again do what they’ve been doing for decades.

Indeed, they were given the opportunity to have a their own country and rejected it because well you know: “…from the River to the Sea…” and all that jazz.

Israel is denying 2,000,000 civilians food, water, electricity, medical services, and even the ability to live safely in their own homes. Hamas is not bombing residential neighborhoods in Gaza or cutting off people's cellphone service so they cannot call an ambulance or see if their friends and family are OK when they hear bombs.
Israel agrees to allow 100 trucks of humanitarian aid into Gaza each day — official

Yes. Now do the math - 100 trucks. 2,000,000+ civilians. Massive bombings. Do you think 100 trucks can even begin to satisfy the basic needs?
700 truck loads of aid per week can go a really long way in delivering the much needed aid.

But, in your post above, it comes across that Israel is responsible for the daily sustenance of the citizens of Gaza. I thought the government of Gaza is responsible for that.

It also comes across that Israel is the bad guy and Hamas is not doing the horrible things Israel is doing.

Gaza can’t be both its own nation, and then expect Israel to supply all its needs.
Further, no criticism of Israel and its blockade is complete without equal criticism of Egypt and its blockade. But Egypt is alway left off the hook. Why?
Why is it Israel’s responsibility to funnel aid to Gaza, to be attacked from Gaza, to give work permits to Gaza, to field humanitarian criticism from Gaza, but Egypt doesn’t have to do anything at all?

South Korea completely blocked off economically from land, by North Korea. But they are thriving because they don’t attack the North, and they have made the most of their sea and air options. Gaza could, if only they were so inclined, use their Egypt border to be just fine. But Egypt won’t let them. And Egypt isn’t being constantly attacked from Gaza. Egypt has less reason to close that border than Israel does theirs. So Egypt has more obligation to be useful.

Certainly better than nothing. But reports on the ground from almost all aid groups are saying the people who live there are in really dire shape.

Israel has blockaded Gaza. They are responsible for that. You said Israel is "allowing" 100 trucks a day into Gaza - that describes the situation perfectly.

Huh? That's certainly not what I am saying. But Israel is responsible when it does horrible things. And I think the conversation is focusing on that because we all agree that Hamas is doing horrible things - we tend not to keep discussing the things we agree on.

Gaza has been blockaded for years, and Gaza isn’t big enough to grow food for 2 million people.
