If you are a fan of James Thurber, then you certainly know the story about Muggs, the dog that bit people.
Now we have another famous dog that bites people. His name is Commander.

This is a thread to discuss dogs that bite people, and laws that protect such dogs.
This can also be a news thread for the future of Commander.

Re: The Dog that Bit People
My parents had complaints against them for their dog because someone was scared. The dog in question was never off a leash and had a second leash and harness. This was a medium sized black lab that was really excited.
They have to keep the dog in the kennel now otherwise they will be kicked out of their rv park.
Nothing they can do…
I would expect that anyone’s dog that was allowed to bite more then once to be put down.
I’m of course not counting puppy bites…
How old is the President’s dog? The link doesn’t like my phone.

My father taught us that dogs get one freebie and that the second time it bites a person it’s time to put them down.

I think the president would be better off gifting the problem to PETA. Solve two problems with one stone.

Or ship it to an impoverished Native American reservation. After it's put down, rather than let the protein go to waste, they make a stew. When the leader of the tribe eats, the dog becomes ...

Re: The Dog that Bit People
We had a similar rule about a dog that killed chickens, or ate the eggs. (I thought about this recently when I was, according to custom, washing the egg shells before putting them in the trash. One, these egg shells go to the dump, and even if we still were putting them on our own garbage pile as we used to, we don't have a dog, and when we did he was kept on a leash all of its poor, miserable life. It was our youngest son's dog, when our son was just a young boy. He took very good care of it, played with it, etc., but dogs should not be prevented from running free. It's not fair that cats can run wild, and mess around where they don't belong, but the law dictates that a dog has to be kept confined or chained.)
My younger brother had an Australian Shepard (dog), and they are very protective, of people, not so much of territory. So when people came over, he would be wagging his tail and acting really friendly until one of us showed up at the door. Then he was all teeth. Anyone who is out in public with a dog should know the breeds well enough to choose wisely. (I don't know what kind of dog the President has, and I don't know other breeds well, either. That is his responsibility. The President's, not the dog's....)

Yeah, this really strikes me as irresponsible.HondurasKeiser wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 10:08 am My father taught us that dogs get one freebie and that the second time it bites a person it’s time to put them down.
Surely they can find dogs that don't bite. And keep these dogs in a place where they threaten nobody. He probably has ways to do that without shooting the dogs.
