I hope the year goes well for you. Teaching is not easy these days.
They say that things start to get better the third year. Teaching is the hardest thing I've ever done and while I don't think I'm good at it yet, there's progress.

Teaching has been a transformative experience for me and transformation has been hard, but it's good.
Wife: if all else fails, you can always just make a giant hot air balloon and sail off somewhere where none of your students or school board can find you. Just make sure it doesn’t look like a Chinese spy balloon and to keep clear of mysterious islands...
This sounds completely practical and a lot simpler than just quitting.

I do wonder some days why I am doing this. Teaching is hard work and it's my sense that public education is full of good, well-meaning people trying to do their best in a dysfunctional system. I work in a "hard" district -- a poor, rural, small-town community where many of the students are dealing with some sort of trauma in their lives. Some of our students have parents addicted to drugs, are dealing with food insecurity, don't have heat in their home, have parents who are constantly jumping from partner to partner, are dealing with abuse and we expect them to sit still for eight hours a day and learn something. When I first started teaching, one of the outside observers for my non-traditional teaching license advised me to go to a different district where student compliance was easier.

Teaching is the hardest thing I've ever done.

And yet...

I've worked "normal" jobs. I've worked in an office. I've worked in a factory. I've had jobs where I put in my 40 hours and went home and didn't think about work. That's not for me.

I need purpose. I need to serve people and try to make a difference in their lives. Teaching provides that.

I work all day in 100+ heat and just spent 3 hours on the roof in the Texas sun. I agree teaching can be a challenge, just remind yourself you are doing it in a cool space. ;)

3 hours later tonight on the roof with 3 hours tomorrow morning back on it should finish the job. I am adding ridge vents. Got a new roof when we bought the house and they did not add any ridge vent. That is a have to item in Texas.

Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.
I think I am funnier than I really am.

It's not a contest. I've worked ten-hour shifts on the paint line in a factory next to industrial ovens in hundred-degree weather, preparing and hanging parts. Teaching is a different kind of hard than physical labor, but it's still hard. I've seen a lot of turnover since I started teaching.

Children are not born civilized.

God trusts us .. with His creation. His slowest to mature creations.

Any day that you play the opening lines of "Beowulf" in Old English for your students is a good day.

It looks like being a student of such is much harder than being a teacher…. The teacher can spew nonsense and then the students have to try and make sense of it…
