Also, a Christian is bound to speak truth.
"Good morning, Mrs. Smith" is not exactly speaking truth, if Mrs. Smith, is in fact, Mr. Smith.
It is not true that I am in no way affected when compelled to refer to someone else by a preferred pronoun.
Whether people are essentially male or female is really a metaphysical question, opinions about which the state is supposed to have no powers to compel
Classic Liberalism was opposed to this. Neo-Liberalism takes up cause with neoMarxist oppressive tolerance theory to compel people to speak against their conscience.

Re: Gender confusion
It is a courtesy title, nothing more. And it is actually not about you. You can decide to be courteous, or you can decide to be discourteous and make it all about you. It is your call.Falco Knotwise wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 5:05 pm Also, a Christian is bound to speak truth.

It is not true that I am not hurt by being forced to call someone by a preferred pronoun. In this case, you are compelling me to speak an untruth, against my conscience.

It would be nice if it was my call, but under the circumstances you're statement is false. How is it my call if I am being compelled to speak something against my conscience by the state?Ken wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 5:14 pmIt is a courtesy title, nothing more. One is not even forced to give a judge the courtesy title of "your honor" in this country.
Since when does the state force people to use titles?

Re: Gender confusion
Good question. When does the state require you to address anyone to begin with? Under what specific circumstances are you referring where the state forces you to use a specific title? I don't think I've ever in my life been forced to address someone with a specific title or pronoun.Falco Knotwise wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 5:24 pmSince when does the state force people to use titles?

It's the logic of your own words. The state is forcing me to use a "courtesy title" if I can lose my job for not using it, correct?Ken wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 5:33 pmGood question. I did notice how you just brushed past my question "how is it my call" if I am compelled to say it by law?
(I provided an example of a physicians assistant losing a job over it above )
Care to answer that one?

Re: Gender confusion
When on earth are you ever compelled by the state to address someone with a specific title? I don't think the state has ever once forced me to use a specific title to address anyone. Or even pronouns. I've been teaching for 15 years and never bother to use pronouns to address anyone. If I'm speaking to or about students I just use their name. I don't understand what the issue is. I honestly don't care what any student's personal pronouns are because I don't use them anyway. Ever. This is an entirely made-up issue.Falco Knotwise wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 5:40 pmIt's the logic of your own words. I get that you really can avoid using pronouns in most cases if you want to I would never continuously refer to a trans person as Mr. (for example) just to rub it in and certainly would never go out of my way to insult someone on purpose. (Though if you accidentally misgender someone on the net they may go bat crazy and act like you just assaulted them, I found out.)Ken wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 5:46 pmWhen on earth are you ever compelled by the state to address someone with a specific title? Yet, there are examples of people losing their jobs over refusing to use such titles.
I provided one example above. You can read that if you're really interested.

Our calling is to believe God, over man, to be "courteous" to their preference is to disrespect our Creator, the True & living GodKen wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 5:14 pmIt is a courtesy title, nothing more. Re: Gender confusion
The example you provided above had nothing to do with the state forcing anyone to use any titles or pronouns. It was a woman who worked for a private employer who refused to do part of her job which was to make referrals to other providers and so was let go. We actually only have her side of the story so who knows what other issues with performance and insubordination she had.Falco Knotwise wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 6:01 pmI get that you really can avoid using pronouns in most cases if you want to I would never continuously refer to a trans person as Mr. (for example) just to rub it in and certainly would never go out of my way to insult someone on purpose. She claims it was also because she refused to use people's preferred pronouns. But I have my doubts because gender-specific pronouns don't actually ever come up when you are talking with someone in the first person like a patient sitting in front of you. You use their actual name, or simply "you" or "Your" as in "do you have pain here?" Have you been taking your medicine? Gender-specific pronouns are usually only for talking about someone in the third person when they are not present. And even then they are easily avoided if one finds them problematic simply by using their name. Instead of "she has an appointment next Thursday" you simply say "Alex has an appointment next Thursday"
Again, people who kick up a fuss about pronouns are generally seeking a confrontation on the subject and being deliberately insubordinate to make it all about them rather than the person who is being addressed or discussed. I find this sort of thing tiresome and easily avoided. I know this because I work in a public school setting where some people do carve out specific pronouns and I find it easy to just sidestep the whole issue by not using pronouns to begin with. I don't have a particular objection to using someone's chosen pronouns. But with 150 students I just can't be bothered to keep track of them all so I don't.

Re: Gender confusion
Well, here's an example where a teacher was forced to resign because he refused to use preferred pronouns and names.
https://apnews.com/article/indiana-teac ... f0f835ed08
What is your opinion on that? In the same circumstances as this man, I may have resigned as well.
Also, a biology professor was fired for stating that sex is determined by x and y chromosomes. That link was provided above, too.
