I wouldn't call women's studies a fake subject.

It is a real subject with a lot of things to explore such as the changing role of women in society. I don't think it is a bad thing to better understand the world we live in.

I wouldn't, however, consider it to be a very marketable stand-alone degree. But rather an elective class you might pick up here and there. But it is no different from any other esoteric academic subject from Elizabethan poetry to classical Greek to Renaissance art to Egyptology. Something that you specialize in at your own risk if you expect to make a living with your college degree. And also like most other liberal arts subjects, women's studies is something that you can approach with a very conservative filter, very liberal filter, or anything in-between. It certainly trends liberal these days, but there are conservative scholars in women's studies as well.

I agree with everything he said there, but he didn't use the word "fake" unless I missed it?

As I understand it, feminism has been a revolutionary movement from the beginning but when coopted by neomarxist movements became explicitly so. It really is a direct attack on Christian culture and a formative influence on what I would distinguish as the secular mass culture.

Like all other Woke movements, with its attacks on reason, the person, and paternal authority, it is ultimately an attack on the Logos himself. Those are the three main characteristics of the Logos according to the Bible: the Logos ("which enlightens all men" — in other words, reason; John 1:9) is manifested in the person of Jesus, who manifests the Father. (John 14:8-9)

Yet, I think neomarxist feminism really goes after it in a special way.

If you liked Noelle Mering in that video with Scott Hahn you might enjoy going to http://noellemering.com and http://theologyofhome.com. Those are two of her websites.

She is really good. I plan on ordering her book, "Awake, not Woke," when I can.

So many books ... so little time! (& money!) :D

And yes, the studies formally known as "liberal studies" have long since gone out of favor as out of step with the modern ideological climate of opinion, largely influenced by the presuppositions of scientism which regards the pursuit of "truth" as a total waste of time.

Who believes in or takes seriously the stuff of the soul anymore in academia? Wouldn't that violate the separation of Church and State, if not in fact, then at least in spirit?

But those who deny supernatural forces become slaves to earthly force. That is what is happening in our schools since we have tossed out the idea of a liberal education in the classical sense, and that is by design, too, imo.

^^i listened again. i believe you are correct, presumably, the video title is a product of Philosophylnsights.
“Fake” is currently a catchy word.

Thanks for reminder of NOELLE MERING, discussed earlier in this topic.

^^These are favorite but unconvincing arguments of atheists, humanists, etc.
More correct to say, “freedom of religion,” not, “freedom from religion.” Prepositions!

^^This is what i see playing out in my lifetime. My Forrest Gump life.
Vashti McCollum’s sons were friends with my older brother. One was at our house often (teens in the garage, working on cars) he was quick and light-hearted and kind to me (not something i counted on from my impatient brother)! lol God rest his dear soul.

They were well-known atheists*, because of the SCOTUS lawsuit. To me, just neighbors.
My mother insisted, “do not discuss religion with them!” We didn’t. i never got the idea the boys were interested, even later, as adults. From what i understand, before Vashti died, she changed her mind about her lawsuit. Change of heart happens. It doesn’t change law.

People were bothered by what was happening in schools.
i don’t believe any foresaw (example) the onset of FFR / Freedom From Religion political organization. That would have seemed beyond extreme. Much of what has unfolded over those decades, the same.

i honestly believe, if those folks had foreseen “where we are” they would have never allowed various decisions, including normalization/distribution of birth control pills - not just to include unmarrieds, but teens+children, too. In the early days, when b.c. pills were marketed as help FOR MARRIED PEOPLE, they could not imagine life as it is today. They would not have tolerated it.

If people had foreseen “in the day” what would result, they wouldn’t have been wishy-washy, ambivalent, apathetic.

Personally, i believe (faith) is beyond human reasoning .. without benefit of the Holy Spirit, which is not controlled by university degrees, it’s not possible to have faith. Faith is a gift of the Holy Spirit.

i pray for these ignorant ones to be blessed. i pray for the harm they do to be mitigated.
There is so much needless suffering - due to ignorance and denial of Truth.

*i see the word, “humanist” used to describe Vashti. To my recall, in the old days, the word was atheist.

Wow, that is so Protestant! :D

The way I see it, even pagans like Heraclitus, Plato & Aristotle had faith. They didn't have the specifically Christian revelation, but they had some revelation. To my way of thinking, when the gospel says the Logos is the light that shines on all men, that included even the pagans.

So I do not see a bifurcation between faith and reason which is a very modern (Enlightenment) conception of reason. Ultimately, I think that idea has had very harmful consequences.

For example, you seem to agree the study of truth has no place in a university? I disagree.

Amen to that.

 .. my hope is it’s “so Didymus!”

i think so. many years ago, i began thinking, “i don’t believe in atheists” .. more recently, i learned of early Quakers. i believe all are God’s creation, before conception.
For example, you seem to agree the study of truth has no place in a university? I disagree.
no, no. it must be my poor writing skills. i agree with Sir Roger, and, i’m specially touched when learned, degreed men, sometimes geniuses, acknowledge God and God’s Truth .. often recognizing, “the more i know, the more i know i don’t know” .. touching and humbling.

Today’s prevailing lib narrative tends to be at odds with this. At most, they tolerate words of faith, IF those words can be manuevered to support to whatever desired human reasoning is at hand. Backward. “Submission” and “obedience” are hated words.

Does that help?

Moderns think the proper end of all human aspirations is liberty but the ancients thought it was virtue. "Submission" and "obedience" are hard words, but definitely were considered necessary. They knew that making an idol of liberty could lead to chaos & disorder and that's why they didn't make an idol of democracy either.

Reminds one of what John Adams said:
“We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other.”
Who talks like that anymore, eh? Many Americans today would be ashamed such a quote is a part of our history.
Does that help?
Very much so! Thanks, temp! Sorry if I misunderstood you! :D

Rejecting concepts of submission+obedience (to God, and His Truth) are tantamount to rejecting all of Christianity.
Jesus Christ personally, and perfectly modeled submission+obedience to His Father, Our God - over+over, to the ultimate sacrifice.

Bit by bit, over decades, these concepts have been eliminated .. today, replaced with pride (even in carnal sin) to be worshipped.
Feminism has devolved into an organized path to matriarchy, in emptiness. Lots of noisy female bullies, not competent at much more than verbal bullying. As Sir Roger suggests, higher ed now courts it. A bully with an ivy league degree can do a lot of damage. There’s a lot of gaming the system, the system attracts manipulators. imho. It grooms them!

The John Adams quote is endlessly intriguing. In a few words, he speaks volumes.
How fitting for our tech times, leaning more+more to preference for mob mentality over respect for “archaic” rule of law.

biden’s recent attempt to circumvent Congress by putting SCOTUS in the hot spot (over student loans) then LOUDLY blaming SCOTUS for doing what they had no other choice to do (he knew it from the start) - instead of apologizing, he’s doubling down; in my view, inciting a riot among the young+ignorant. endless gall.

John Adams had insights and foresight.
Lack of foresight today is a major problem. It’s as tho many powerful leaders had no formal education at all.
They blunder about as if they were “born yesterday” with no wisdom to draw upon.
