The government already tracks the locations of phones. Allowing such tracking is required by law even if you turn off location services on your phone. It seems reasonable to expect the government to help you locate and retrieve your stolen phone.
Likewise, the government is already monitoring all kinds of communication. It seems reasonable they would surveil such communication for planning for organising criminal riots.
I don’t support freedom from government surveillance for someone trafficking in stolen property.

It would be nice if you’d occasionally back off from trying to find things that aren’t there.Szdfan wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 9:40 pm
If someone opposes government action because it limits or restricts their freedom and liberty, it seems odd to me that these same people want the government to track everyone's cellphone usage and restrict who gets to own a phone.
Freedom for me but not for thee?
My examples were intended to demonstrate how policies+laws often follow, not lead, inventions, not a word about whether that’s good or bad or indifferent. It’s just fact.
If a parent allows a teen to drive, that doesn’t mean driving privileges can’t be removed.
i see no reason smartphones should be specially exempt. Whether by parents, schools, the legal system, or all of the above.

Everyone notice EM plans to "transform Twitter into the everything app"?
Ready for X/Twitter?![]()
Me neither. I don't know whether it will really come out in 2024 or not, but I bet will be a hot seller when it finally does.
The younger generation is going to eat this stuff up. You can already get a virtual AI girlfriend. People in Japan are already dating robots.
i wonder what life is like for Elon Musk’s children? i wonder if they’re shielded from a lot of tech (as other tech tycoons are reported to shield their children)?

Elon has 10 children by three different women and he sleeps in his office rather than going home. Somehow I don't think he is the model husband or father.temporal1 wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 11:19 pmSome will eat it up. He is clearly neglecting his children and apparently spends no time with them. That is the answer to your question about what life is like for Elon's children.

That’s your opinion, your speculation, nothing more.
He does not deny his children, speaks well and fondly of them. i have no indication what life is like for them. Thus my question.
He has an interesting sense of humor, plus he’s intelligent and eccentric.
He might be a great father. For their sakes, i hope he is.

Re: Elon Musk. Twitter. Babylon Bee.
This is what Elon says on the subject: https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-mu ... dit-2021-2
So there you have it. According to the man himself, his kids spend a lot of time online and he believes that education should be more like video games.Elon Musk says his kids spend a lot of time online and 'were mostly educated by YouTube and Reddit'
He also said he thought education should be as engaging for kids as video games are. Musk's five older sons attend a school he created that mainly focuses on AI, coding, and applied science.
Elon Musk said most of his kids' education was coming from the internet.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO — who is a father of six children, five of whom are school-aged — was asked about education during a live interview on the audio app Clubhouse on Sunday night.
One of the interviewers asked Musk what he thought the best way to educate a 5-year-old in today's world would be and how he would think about that child's education over the next five to 10 years.
After a pause, Musk said he believed the internet had been formative in his kids' education.
"Well, my observation is that my kids were mostly educated by YouTube and Reddit," Musk said. "I guess there were lessons as well, but judging by the amount of time they spent online, it seemed like most of their education is actually coming from online."
Musk added that he thought education should be "as interesting and exciting as possible" and that thinking about it in terms of video games could help keep kids more engaged.
"If kids can be super engaged in video games, there's a way for them to be super engaged in education as well," Musk said.

Re: Elon Musk. Twitter. Babylon Bee.
^^Your interest far exceeds mine.
i’m surprised to read this, although, as with anything involving Mr Musk, i would not hold any single public report to be the full picture. i consider his middle name to be “eccentric,” and expect twists+surprises, if nothing else.
trying to play “gotcha” with Mr Musk is probably a losing enterprise.
i shied away from reading anything about him prior to his Twitter venture and this thread.
not to be critical of him, i’m ambivalent about him, but because (i sense) his brain operates in a different dimension i’m not that interested in.
