Contrast the way a Democratic President responds to the Pulse gay night club shooting. Both President Obama, and Vice-President Biden go visit the site, lay flowers at the site.mike wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 5:19 pmYeah, no kidding.appleman2006 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 4:58 pmIt was the worst display of tone deafness I have ever seen. The president, in a speech that included a response to the shooting, began his speech talking about what kind of ice cream he eats and how much he has upstairs, I'm assuming in the residential part of the White House. He then went on to talk about the shooting.
In a speech say this:
And then 5 years later, President Biden designates the Pulse site a National Memorial."Sunday morning, that sanctuary was violated in the worst way imaginable. So whatever the motivations of the killer, whatever influences led him down the path of violence and terror, whatever propaganda he was consuming from ISIL and al Qaeda, this was an act of terrorism but it was also an act of hate. This was an attack on the LGBT community. Americans were targeted because we’re a country that has learned to welcome everyone, no matter who you are or who you love. And hatred towards people because of sexual orientation, regardless of where it comes from, is a betrayal of what’s best in us.
"Joe and I were talking on the way over here -- you can't make up the world into “us” and “them,” and denigrate and express hatred towards groups because of the color of their skin, or their faith, or their sexual orientation, and not feed something very dangerous in this world.
"So if there was ever a moment for all of us to reflect and reaffirm our most basic beliefs that everybody counts and everybody has dignity, now is the time."
Or what President Biden said at last year at about the gay nightclub shooting in Colorado Springs:
Consistent to decry hate, when it is directed at their constituency. But when a Christian school is shot by a trans person? Ho-hum, how about that ice cream!Places that are supposed to be safe spaces of acceptance and celebration should never be turned into places of terror and violence. Yet it happens far too often. We must drive out the inequities that contribute to violence against LGBTQI+ people. We cannot and must not tolerate hate.
Todays White House transcript, a lot of ice cream, jokes, laughter, electric cars, and as he put it "speak very briefly about the school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee".
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you. My name is Joe Biden. (Laughter.) I’m Dr. Jill Biden’s husband. (Laughter.) And I eat Jeni’s Ice Cream, chocolate chip. (Laughter.) I came down because I heard there was chocolate chip ice cream. (Laughter.)
By the way, I have a whole refrigerator full upstairs. (Laughter.) You think I’m kidding, I’m not.
Ben, how are you, pal?
SENATOR CARDIN: Well.
THE PRESIDENT: One of the best guys in the United States Congress, Ben Cardin. (Applause.)
Folks, welcome to the White House.
AUDIENCE: Thank you.
THE PRESIDENT: And it’s a delight to have you all here. And who are those good-looking kids back here? (Laughter.)
MS. BLAKELY: Those are my kids.
THE PRESIDENT: They’re your kids? All four of them?
MS. BLAKELY: Yes.
THE PRESIDENT: Well, stand up, guys. (Laughter and applause.)
Well, I want you to know, like you, I had two brothers — there were three in our family, three brothers, and one sister. And my sister is smarter than all of us. (Laughter.) Not a joke.
She used to be three years younger than me; now she’s 23 years younger than me. (Laughter.) You know, she managed every one of my campaigns for office, even back when I was in high school. We went to the same university two years apart. She graduated with honors; I graduated. (Laughter.) And we had a simple rule in the family: Listen to Val. (Laughter.) My sister, Valerie, is incredible.
So, guys, be nice to your sister. You’re going to need her. (Laughter.) You’re going to need her. I promise.
It’s the same lineup. You’re the oldest? Who’s number two? Number two? Who’s number three?
AUDIENCE MEMBER: It’s both.
THE PRESIDENT: You’re twins? Are you guys twins?
AUDIENCE MEMBER: No, we’re not twins. (Laughter.)
THE PRESIDENT: Okay. All right. Just how — just how it was in our outfit. Well, I’m so glad to see you all, and thanks for coming with mom. Okay?
You got to take care of your mom. Dads are much harder to raise. But, you know, we’re — (laughter) —
Before I begin to speak, and the reason I spent a little time on the kids, I — I just want to speak very briefly about the school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee.
You know, Ben and I have been doing this our whole careers, it seems. And it’s just — it’s sick. You know, we’re still gathering the facts of what happened and why. And we do know that, as of now, there are a number of people who are not going to — did not make it, including children.
And it’s heartbreaking. A family’s worst nightmare.
And I want to commend the police who repo- — responded incredibly swiftly — within minutes — to end the danger.
We’re monitoring the situation really closely — Ben, as you know — and we have to do more to stop gun violence. It’s ripping our communities apart, ripping the soul of this nation — ripping at the very soul of the nation. And we — we have to do more to protect our schools so they aren’t turned into prisons.
You know, the shooter in this situation reportedly had two assault weapons and a pistol — two AK-47. So I call on Congress, again, to pass my assault weapons ban. It’s about time that we begin to make some more progress.
But there’s more to learn. But I just wanted to send my concern and hearts out to so many parents out there. I’ve been to so many of these sites, as Ben knows, by — virtually every one.
And one of the things you folks should — I know you do know, but you should focus on — you know, just like when — in the military — when my son was in Iraq for a year, other places, you — there’s so many members of the military coming back with post-traumatic stress after witnessing the violence and participating in it.
Well, these children, these teachers, they should be — should be focusing on their mental health, as well.
And so I’m grateful — anyway, sorry to start off that way, but I couldn’t begin without acknowledging what happened. And now I’m grateful that all of you are joining us here today.
Natalie, thank you for that introduction and for doing such an amazing thing in Detroit — Detroit — making chan- — chargers for electric vehicles in the Motor City — (laughs) — keeping going during the pandemic. And I want to welcome your son, Diop. Where’s Diop?
Oh, there you are, pal. (Laughter.) How are you? (Applause.) You got to be proud of your mom. You got to be proud of your mom.
I fully expect that the tables are turned when Trump is in charge. The Christian right felt like he had their back.

There were 647 mass shootings in the US last year and 130 so far in the first 3 months of 2023: https://www.nytimes.com/article/mass-sh ... -2023.htmlmike wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 5:19 pmYeah, no kidding.appleman2006 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 4:58 pmIt was the worst display of tone deafness I have ever seen. On which day is he supposed to eat ice cream? This is what happens when we, as a nation, choose to do nothing to address gone violence. Nothing. We are reduced to policing tone instead of policing guns and killing. It is really quite pathetic.
Mass shootings happen nearly every day now and it becomes a normal routine event. And that is partly because people who share the views of many here on this forum simply don't care enough to actually do anything about it. There were over 4,000 school kids killed by guns last year. What's another 3 more? That isn't even rounding error.

Re: 6 killed at private Christian School in Nashville
Easy:
January 15, February 4, March 20, June 2, June 7, June 20, June 27, July 7, July 16, July 17, July 25, August 2, August 6, August 14, August 19, September 6, and December 13.
Presidents should know this stuff. I mean, I agree that no ice cream in the months after March 20 -April and May- might seem long. But he is the President, it's not like he can't create more ice cream days for those months. And of course there is Sunday evenings after church. But maybe he can't go a full week in between. Or maybe he doesn't go to church.
I might be missing some days, but nowhere have I found March 29.

So… maybe I’m missing something but I was under the impression that AK’s were already not allowed…

The shooter used a carbine loaded with smaller caliber ammunition; not an AK (according to several news sources).

And Biden's joking around this terrible tragic shooting continued yesterday.GaryK wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 2:09 pm

Yesterday Biden was asked by a reporter whether he thinks that the Nashville School shooting was targeting Christians. The reporter followed with the statement and question “Josh Hawley says he believes they were, what do you say to that”? Biden jokingly replied, “I probably don’t then”. Biden admitted he was just joking. In Biden's mind opposing Josh Hawley's suggestion, is more important than addressing the possible motive for the brutal killing of three children and three adults.

Politicisation by MSM aside anytime a tragedy of this nature occurs, whether we like it or not, government response does matter and Biden's two "jokes" were not just tone deaf, but they are completely unacceptable. Tragedies such as this are at their core, crimes. Families are without their children now.Grace wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 7:54 amAnd Biden's joking around this terrible tragic shooting continued yesterday.GaryK wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 2:09 pm

During an investigation, the police have a great deal of pressure on them to find the guilty and bring that guilty person to the court. The court must then prove guilt beyond doubt. Problems start when "exceptions" are made during sentencing and the excuses made for killing others.
The police did find a manifesto written by the shooter. It is a part of the investigation and eventually, court records. There is now pressure to make that manifesto public before the court case, presumably to create a foundation for a mistrial as then the number of qualified candidates for the jury pool will be minimal.
