I think it did. And as a Christian first, I wouldn't have any consternation to see these guns banned. But if I wasn't a Christian, and simply an American who didn't particularly trust the government, and who viewed the constitution as sacrosanct, and who wanted to preserve some level of I don't know...power to fight an oppressive government, then I would never want to see these guns outlawed. I understand their mindset a bit. But it cannot be for me. I have gotten rid of firearms that I had that were specifically made to kill people, and fire 30 rounds rapidly.

For myself, I cannot fathom the anguish of losing a child like this. I hate it. But liberals* are not my ally. They* are anti-Christian, anti-Christ, and love to kill babies themselves. Murder is wrong. These agenda driven organizations and people, pick and choose when to be outraged about, what to amplify, based solely on how it fits their larger agenda and values. Note, that is equally true for conservative and liberal outlets.

*I don't really mean individual people who may consider themselves liberal or who lean toward other liberal policies, or who are anti-gun, but rather anyone who gets all worked up about dead children, but then live like the devil and promote the devils work everywhere else.

1. Which is easier to get in this country, a gun license or a driver's license?
2. Which is tracked more closely, car ownership/registration or gun ownership/registration?
3. Which is easier for the authorities to suspend. A driver's license or gun license?
4. Which is easier for authorities to seize? a car or a gun?
Cars kill more people (particularly young people) than guns. Perhaps we should regulate cars more like guns, then.
This is false. It it used to be true but in the year 2020 gun deaths became the leading cause of death for children and the gap has been widening ever since. Cars are getting safer over time. Guns are getting more dangerous.

I think the statistics can only validly show that after the affect of covid restrictions settle down. We had very significant societal changes in the last few years. If your opinion is correct, those changes would still be reflected in a year or two as well. Right now though it’s unclear if it’s distorted by covid.

Gun deaths are not just going up because there are more shootings. They are going up because guns are getting more deadly on average. Today a higher percentage of shootings are with high powered rifles with large magazines like the AR as well as automatic handguns like 9 mm with extended magazines. Shooters are spraying more high-powered bullets today than 10-20 years ago. Not just school shootings like yesterday. But gang shootings on the street. When there are twice as many shots fired in an incident, more people get killed and injured.

I agree with this. Yet conservative Americans must simply believe that these deaths are not a high enough to out weight the security that they feel that these guns provide them, and they believe that it is their constitution-given right -or even duty- to have them. And I get it. When a principle is on the line, it needs to be held, even in the face of high costs. I don't share this particular principle, but I have others, and I wouldn't violate my values and principles either.

The whole of society seems to be rotting at its core. And with a rotten values system, it might be reasonable to expect that worse is coming. And so these people are asking, "Why would I get rid of my AR's, when my AR's aren't the problem. And soon enough with drugs legalized, crimes not prosecuted, I am on my own. I'll just keep my AR and maybe my whole family should have them. After all, these very same people who want to take my guns, are the very same people who are also threatening my livelihood with regulations, who are forcing me to compromise my values and religion, and who are forcing sexual perversions down my throat. And they want to defund the police. They threaten me, and want me to be helpless."
And then toss in a few real fears about China or some foreign invasion in the mix, and ultimately the cost of innocents is found to be acceptable. Particularly in light of the fact that there are other murders that get ignored.

Yesterday press secretary KJP, who speaks for the President, denounced the shootings in very harsh tones. However just last week she was denouncing legislation in states that are implementing stricter abortion laws. Yesterday three 9 year olds were slaughtered. We need to remember that 10 years ago, evil Biden and KJP would have condoned killing those same children under the guise of "women's health care". .

American culture has an idolatrous love affair with guns. We look to them for our salvation, that is, to literally make us safe. They make us feel empowered and secure and we feel they give us agency and freedom.

10 years ago, and all the more today.
Today, they use the words “pregnant persons” or “pregnant residents” so as not to inadvertantly overlook any (profits).
For profit death sentences. Not health care.

I view it kind of like speed limits. we can make cars that can go 220 mph and it would perhaps be cool and even useful if we could drive at those speeds on the interstate. Driving from Portland to Seattle might take 1 hour instead of 3. But we don't do that because of safety and no one wants to be driving around on public highways with crazies zooming past at 200 mph. It makes everyone else more unsafe. We don't ban cars, but we restrict their potential for safety and basic civilization reasons.

But with guns we don't really do any of that. Weapons keep getting more and more powerful and higher capacity. You can get 30 and 50 round capacity magazines for AR-15s. You can get 30 round magazines for Glock 9mm handguns. And they will both fire as fast as you can pull the trigger. by comparison the 30-06 rifle I learned to hunt with was a bolt action with 5 round magazine. It was a deadly weapon but you had to chamber each round individually. Shooting 30 people like in Newtown CT would be vastly more difficult.

I view restrictions on the highest capacity deadliest weapons more like speed limits. It is a common sense way to make our public spaces safer. And if there are special reasons for certain people to have the highest capacity deadliest weapons we figure out how to allow restricted access to them so psychotic 18 year olds cant just buy them no questions asked. Just like we have people driving NASCAR and Indy cars in restricted settings but we don't allow them on our streets.
