Re: Reading, Pa chocolate factory explosion
I saw this in the newsfeed this morning. Tragic, to say the least. It is a solemn reminder that there are dangerous aspects to any occupation, including the making of candies. I seem to recall there was a flood of chocolate in Brooklyn in 1919 though it seems no one was injured then.
The large cauldrons that hold the molten chocolate: are they heated by gas or electric elements?

As of a few minutes ago, they're going with the gas explosion theory. I saw on the train monitor this morning that the railroad is shut down in that area as the tracks are right beside that building. I also read that the explosion pushed neighboring buildings 4' off their foundations. One was a church and another was an apartment building.

Re: Reading, Pa chocolate factory explosion
I didn’t read the article (locked down phone) but if it caused structural damage then the gas theory is more likely. Possibly flour caused the explosion, but tons of things could have happened. Fire will eventually determine most likely cause.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 11:15 am As of a few minutes ago, they're going with the gas explosion theory. That is quite powerful, to be able to push buildings off of their foundations. It seems that gas would have that explosive capacity. I daresay the amount of debris that I saw in the video of the explosion has made those tracks impassable.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 11:15 am As of a few minutes ago, they're going with the gas explosion theory. I just read they found a survivor in the rubble. Still a few unaccounted for.

Praying they find more survivors. We are also praying for the Mississippi residents hit by the tornado.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 5:33 pm I just read they found a survivor in the rubble. Still a few unaccounted for.

Everyone has been found and accounted for. Unfortunately, not in the way we would have hoped.
