Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

I’m not from the area, so I’m not familiar with the Lilitz Moravian Congregation, but that’s the sort of language used by mainline/liberal congregations. Between that and the fact that they apparently didn’t object to last year’s approval suggests to me that they probably are pretty standard mainliners. Is anyone from the area familiar enough to confirm that?

As in all congregations, whether it be Moravian, Mennonite or Methodist, etc, you will find great variations from very liberal to very conservative. Being from the area I would say that the Lititz Moravian church would be on the conservative side.

But we need to look at the larger Lititz community and beyond, and the standards held in these communities. The activities at last years Pride event, (as with most pride events), included a vulgar drag show, inappropriate dress, and was non-family friendly,. These activities do not conform to the standards of the community. That does not mean the people In aren't accepting of gay people in their communities, just the activities at these events. This debauched behavior would be acceptable in Las Vegas, of Los Angeles, but Lititz is not either of them.

That makes sense, thanks.

To give a bit of perspective, Lititz is a pretty laid back town, perhaps I could use the term conservative. When the original police force was formed, the officers were not armed. When they did get sidearms, they were .22LR revolvers. That lasted for a good many years, perhaps almost into the 90's.

The schools at the time (the district I graduated from) had almost zero drug issues. The year after I was out, the borough swore in a young looking police officer in secret and sent him to the high school posing as a student. He uncovered a drug ring involving some weed and maybe heavier stuff, but not what they were expecting.

Hope this adds some perspective.

Parks everywhere are struggling with issues. Here is an article about nuns who had to leave their monastery because of the criminal and noisy activity in the park next door. One of their volunteers was murdered as well.

Good article, Max. It is notable that the NY district attorneys have decided to allow the area to become completely lawless, which culminated in the volunteer mentioned being brutally stabbed and murdered. These are the same government officials who are busy pursuing an ex-President for "campaign finance violations", which are apparently a higher priority than allowing nuns to pray in peace in a long-established monastery.

This is walking distance from my house. My wife and daughter run the track in this park. Our church has picnics right behind this monastery. I don't think we were that noisy though, but who knows my young children can be rambunctious... I find it curious they are leaving now, the area is fast gentrifying and the city is putting a lot of money into park infrastructure all around them.

Perhaps they’d prefer to be in a place where their volunteers don’t get murdered.

The nuns moved a couple of years ago (2021?). This looks as though the author was retelling their story.
