median Mennonite

Post by Z_DC »

A friend of mine told me that the median U.S. Mennonite is Horning. In other words, if every Mennonite in the US were to stand in a line based on a spectrum of church membership from liberal to conservative, the median Mennonite would be Horning. This is not counting our Amish brothers and sisters which could move the median even more conservative. I don't really have a question, but just wanted to share this interesting information.

Is that by population or number of groups? Because those two methodologies will produce vastly different results given that there are 50-times more small Anabaptist groups on the conservative end of the spectrum than the liberal end.

The median Mennonite group is going to be very different from the median Mennonite individual.

If you're liberal, I'm progressive 8-)

Seriously, I can see those statistics being true. I would venture to say that the Horning church has one of the higher retention rates of youth than any other conference represented, at least here locally.

If they do leave, they gravitate towards KMF or Mid-Atlantic.
