Re: Russia Invades Ukraine 2022
In terms of actual territory gained by Russia, how is this thing going by now? Do they have a solid hold on any of Ukraine?

i will guess there’s only one member here who would have an answer for you. the answer will be firm, favoring Ukraine.
then subject to change with new information, usually within hours. he will not correct.
i don’t believe anything is settled yet.
with the additional billion+ pelosi promised “within 48 hours” of the Dec 22 fun theater, this will keep things “fluid” at least. imho

I think it depends on who you ask. Pro-Russia they are holding territory just fine and trying to get a peaceful resolution. Pro-Ukrainian, the Russians are on the run and falling back on every attack, give us more weapons.
In other words, despite the sure to follow posts, war time propaganda clouds the truth.
My patient personal feeling is that Russia is counting on the real enemy of this proxy war to lose interest after the elections. They have more better armed forces that so far haven’t been used…
We’ve been being told almost since it started that Russia is failing and being defeated at every turn…

The situation is definitely still fluid, but Russia’s loss of Kherson in November is a big deal. I don’t see an end to the war anytime soon.Soloist wrote: ↑Mon Dec 26, 2022 11:34 pmI think it depends on who you ask. Re: Russia Invades Ukraine 2022
Russia has lost over half the territory it seized during the first month of the war and hasn't made any meaningful territorial gains since April. In fact, Russia hasn't made any meaningful advances since this past July when it seized Severodonetsk. Since then then Russia hasn't been able to advance past Bakhmut in central Donetsk which is where the fighting has been the most intense and where Russia has apparently lost tens of thousands of troops in WW1 style pointless human wave attacks.

If the Ukraine can't militarily take back those regions Russia still has a hold on, what's the chance they go for a peace deal relinquishing claim on those areas?

Depends on if the current regime stays in power. The current Ukraine leadership doesn’t seem to care if they fight to the last man standing.

Zelensky seems popular enough in his country.

I’m far from an expert but I’m guessing that Crimea is the area most likely to be relinquished. But as long as the Ukrainians keep having the momentum I don’t see them willing to give up the rest.
