Re: Today ...
My nephew, the father of five children, was passing out tracts in a rough neighborhood in South Africa, and a dog attacked him and bit off part of his index finger. He's been to three hospitals or clinics, with only a tetanus shot as treatment. He has an appointment at a hospital for next Wednesday.

Re: Today ...
sorry to hear this. i’m not a medical person, but i fear INFECTIONS. i hope he keeps alert to any sign of infection, and does everything possible to prevent. was the bone damaged? i hope someone here who knows more will respond.Joy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 24, 2022 6:47 pm My nephew, the father of five children, was passing out tracts in a rough neighborhood in South Africa, and a dog attacked him and bit off part of his index finger. my teen son injured his finger once, the doctor warned infection could be “catastrophic,” he might lose his finger or hand, in case of infection. he put him in the hospital with an IV drip of antiobiotic. i had no idea it could be so serious.
also, a woman we knew who managed a Seattle Starbucks was bitten by a (homeless) customer’s pet dog. the customer+dog disappeared. her bite wasn’t dramatic, but it got infected, her whole arm became swollen, she was ill and missed work. i don’t know how that ended. i’ve lost touch, that was the summer before the pandemic.
in your nephew’s case, the germs from the dogbite would scare me. (did the dog have rabies vaccine?)
praying for a quick+full recovery.

Re: Today ...
Today .. 20F now, 25F expected today. Much much better.
i’m hoping to visit the nearby USPO, not sure .. not sure the car will start, not sure about snow expected today.
If not, tomorrow’s supposed to be clear with high of 30F.
January+February just ahead!

Re: Today ...
James was given a tetanus shot, and warned about gangrene; the bite was to the bone. But his appointment is not until this Wednesday. Apparently rabies was not present. He says he is doing well. Thank you for praying.temporal1 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 24, 2022 9:59 pmsorry to hear this. i’m not a medical person, but i fear INFECTIONS. i hope he keeps alert to any sign of infection, and does everything possible to prevent. was the bone damaged? i hope someone here who knows more will respond.Joy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 24, 2022 6:47 pm My nephew, the father of five children, was passing out tracts in a rough neighborhood in South Africa, and a dog attacked him and bit off part of his index finger. BTW, I hope to be doing the same as James was, and in the same type of environment (townships/shantytowns) after I get to Cape Town in a couple of weeks. Prayers for that would be appreciated, too!

Re: Today ...
Today the plague has struck me… this has to be one of the worst gastrointestinal diseases I’ve seen in my house… at least it’s fast. Children were vomiting about every 15 minutes during its peak. I really wish people would stay at home when someone is vomiting in their home

Re: Today ...
When it hits my house, I have to go get a frozen coke for the wife. I can stay in the drive through to do it though. It seems to settle her stomach. Not sure if that will help you, but coke is known for that and the frozen part really seems to help with it too.Soloist wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 8:27 am Today the plague has struck me… this has to be one of the worst gastrointestinal diseases I’ve seen in my house… at least it’s fast. Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.
I think I am funnier than I really am.

7up and grape popsicles are my go to. I think I’m feeling a little better, barfing skipped the schedule at 1:15.Robert wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 9:39 am When it hits my house, I have to go get a frozen coke for the wife. Re: Today ...
Wife: Yeah, I think. Soloist specifically meant keeping children home from school/ect and not immediately sending them back since we usually do emergency dashes to the store. Kind of hard w large families though. I had soloist freeze me some Gatorade and was taking pain/fever meds between sessions. This one was the worst I remember either of us having with fever too, but the funny thing is, we were told the parents were hardly getting any symptoms. It would be interesting to compare Mennonite to non Mennonite background sickness levels on the off chance they have some strange leftover immunity from way back…Soloist wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 3:19 pm7up and grape popsicles are my go to. Soloist is still down for the count but hopefully on the mend…thankful neither of us got sick while he was working and he has a sub tomorrow. The timing was actually the best possible, if one must have the plague.
