Two days ago, I was cleaning up outside the house we are about to sell. I saw an old rail of a TV antenna. I pulled on it to get it out from under some stuff. It was stuck. I pulled real hard and it broke free and I punched myself really hard in the chest. I was tender from it, but just ignored it as a dumb thing and went on.

This morning I get up and I had trouble rolling out of bed. I seem to have cracked a rib. I am afraid to go to the doctor because I will have to explain that I beat myself up. At my age, that is elder abuse.

I am not really afraid to go to a doctor, but there is nothing they can do except rap it. I can do that. So onward and back to work. My 14 year old contracted with a neighbor to build a 8 x 10 ft shed. We have to get it done this week while the weather is still warm.
I hadn't realized you were a musician? Wouldn't it cause even more pain and possibly slow the healing process if you rap on a broken rib?

Breathing is easy. laughing hurts, so I have to stay in a real bad mood for the rest of the week. Fortunately, I have teenage buys to make sure that happens.

Today I helped with the MCC meat canning project at Freeport Mennonite Church. We canned LOTS of chicken to go to Ukraine. (While I was there we did three batches of 8 pressure canners each with 140 24-ounce cans.) We had about 40 people there at a time, about half were Amish. It was good to see the Amish working together with other Anabaptists and we had some good conversations. For a while, I worked across from one 18-year-old girl who had spent last year as a school teacher.

I always enjoyed our MDS days. We would often have something quite similar. We just never had to wear the hair nets. I bet it was hard to contain all those beards with hair nets.

There were a LOT of people wearing beard nets. They are made for good-sized beards and seem to work pretty well--but we looked pretty odd.

I've broken or cracked ribs numerous times, but have never gone to a doctor. It is my understanding that they no longer recommend wrapping due to the danger of pneumonia from not being able to breathe properly. Although it's hard enough to breathe anyway! Very painful.
