Also, it's always interesting when the response to the question, "Can we make MN less hostile?" is "MN isn't hostile enough."Szdfan wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 2:19 pmI am okay if people ignore and don't read my posts. This would mean he would have to limit or not come to MN to post since this forum always has and will continue to allow differing voices on issues as long as it is respectful.

Re: Can we make MN less hostile?
^^This is great. A worthy goal.
^^This clarifies.
This thread began ‘way before the child mutilation debates began. (i think that’s the hardest topic right now.)
i don’t think nett or others want or intend any evil on this, but want serious resolution (children’s lives are at stake) and, many feel powerless to do anything about it, as we all witness “the ideologues” ram it through with everything they’ve got, which is huge, Whitehouse-down, in law and access to the public treasury - as discussed in the Gender thread. http://forum.mennonet.com/viewtopic.php ... &start=410
When it comes to God’s Word, isn’t it possible not enough has been done? Is it possible too much has been not only allowed, but promoted? i realize our western culture has its own quasi-Jesus interpretation of Jesus as always affirming every sin.
Is it possible we got that all wrong?? Or, a lot wrong??
Could Josh and nett be onto something with quoting scriptures?
Should scriptures be dismissed as hostile and hateful??
Or should they be studied in context, taken to heart, prayed about, with willingness to find God’s way?
i’m in the latter camp.
i came from the world. Different things discussed here are from a cM view that i never knew about.
i appreciate these points of view, and they have helped me sort out lots of things in my life.
i don’t know Josh or nett any more than i know you.
i appreciate what they bring to the forum. i’m allowed, you’re allowed (and enjoy some inside benefits) - nett should be allowed, too. he is allowed! i mean, i hope he continues to be active on open forum.
Sometimes, God says “No.” Sometimes it hurts. In the end, He knows best. God does not say “No” to hurt us.
Truth is not hostility. That’s a “misgendering”/distortion of what Truth means.

Re: Can we make MN less hostile?
In some political circles, there are people promoting the view that what we really need is more hostility, more trolling, more bullying - while the group cheers. Some internet videos feed right into that.
I think it's easy to absorb that. But as Christians, we must not.

i’d like to add. this is a great post by mike. maybe spot-on 99% of the time on MN.temporal1 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 5:33 pm Page 1:mike wrote: ↑Mon May 28, 2018 2:44 pm I don't know about "we," but I know that you can.
The best way to make MN less hostile is to actually go ahead and make it less hostile.
Leave and ignore threads where the pettiness and drama is out of hand, and start new threads.
Go ahead and discuss what you want to discuss.
If the content is good and the tone of the thread is good, the good kind of posters will be attracted.
Don't let a bad thread or a disgruntled poster ruin the whole forum.
presently, i’m conflicted, ‘cause, the main “hot” topic isn’t petty, not the topic, nor the posts.
child mutilation is life+death of some of the most vulnerable. physically and spiritually. souls are at risk.
where to turn if not to God? (biden?)
some days are just really hard.

I'm not sure I understand why you need to insert yourself here. I feel like you often enable some of the worst behavior on MN by defending really toxic behavior.temporal1 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 5:11 pm^^This is great. A worthy goal.^^This clarifies.

Nett and Josh are free to post whatever they want and I'm free to ignore them. I don't know what they're like in real life, but I see a number of red flags with their online behavior here on MN.

you’re free to ignore me, too.
i thought i did a good job of explaining my interests. if it doesn’t touch you, or mean anything to you, that’s ok.
i’m less interested in every word posted, i try to figure out what’s motivating what’s said.
i tend to presume motivations are positive, even when not always clear on surface.

What, exactly, do you mean by “red flags” here? Speak clearly and plainly.Szdfan wrote: ↑Nett and Josh are free to post whatever they want and I'm free to ignore them. I don't know what they're like in real life, but I see a number of red flags with their online behavior here on MN.

Just like in real life, its not hard to walk away or excuse yourself from a conversation.

Oh, but it IS difficult! I’m pretty sure that conflict releases feel good endorphins in some people.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 9:48 am Just like in real life, its not hard to walk away or excuse yourself from a conversation.

Re: Can we make MN less hostile?
True. I work with a few people like that. Unfortunately, some of them are bosses and that makes it difficult. I do not like conflict, not at work, with family, anywhere. I've conceded to situations where maybe I should have stuck up for myself.Sliceitup wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 11:11 amOh, but it IS difficult!
