Last Sunday evening our "small group" leader asked that we each tell about a favorite Christmas Carol.
I chose a German one that I remember singing as a family when we gathered at my Grandparents' home - Nun Ist Sie Erschinen.
Here is my favorite rendition of what I could find on the internet.

That is a new one to me.
I guess I'm pretty traditional in my likes of the carols- Silent Night, Come Thou Long Expected Jesus, How Great Our Joy, I Wonder as I Wander among others.

Two I really like are:
“The Worlds Greatest Story” but sung in four part Mennonite congregational acapella.
And, “The Wonder Of Wonders”.

Angels we have heard on high
Go, tell it on the mountain
In general I find many (most?) carols not singer friendly, too high and odd harmonization. As a song leader, once a year is enough for many of them.

Went caroling tonight, and we typically ask the people we sing for if they have a favorite. The most requested by far is Beautiful Star of Bethlehem.

Yes, traditional Christmas songs are often musically challenging. And since the song leader only leads them once a year, people don't learn them well.

"O Holy Night"
"Veni, Veni, Emmanuel" ("O Come, O Come Emmanuel") Technically this one is an Advent hymn but it is sung in that week leading up to Christmas.
Infant Holy, Infant Lowly . The Oasis Chorale would do this one quite well as a cappella.
Infant holy, infant lowly,
For His bed a cattle stall;
Oxen lowing, little knowing
Christ, the babe, is Lord of all.
Swift are winging, angels singing,
Noels ringing, tidings bringing:
Christ the babe is Lord of all.
Flocks were sleeping, shepherds keeping
Vigil till the morning new
Saw the glory, heard the story,
Tidings of a gospel true.
Thus rejoicing, free from sorrow,
Praises voicing greet the morrow:
Christ the babe was born for you.

This may be a little "racy" for some here, but King & Country does it best:

And also, Drummer Boy:

Little Drummer Boy is one of my favorites as well. Never heard the rendition for King and country. Love it.

Re: Christmas Carols - Your Favorite?
They were in Phoenix a few years ago and the concert version was incredible. K&C was in Hershey earlier this month and I almost bought tickets. I was never at a concert before and neither was my wife. It came down to a scheduling issue and we decided not to.Grace wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 7:17 amsteve-in-kville wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 5:50 amThis may be a little "racy" for some here, but King & Country does it best:
